Recap / Teen Titans Go S 7 Next Top Talent Idol Star 4

Go To

In the fourth Next Top Talent Idol Star special, the '80s breakdancing superhero Vibe, AKA Francisco Ramon, joins the panel of judges, with this year's prize being to have a picture of the winners replace the Bat-symbol on Batman's chest for a whole year. Robin is desperate to win, due to his idolization of Batman, but the other Titans refuse to form a team with him because he kept skipping their practice sessions.

  • Breaking Old Trends: This is the first Next Top Talent Idol Star special in which the Titans East as a whole don't play a major role, with just Speedy and Artemis making a quick appearance in a montage of failed contestants.
  • Fanservice: Raven and Starfire's performance has them dancing quite provocatively.
  • Multi-Part Episode: In syndication, the episode is split into Parts 1 and 2.
  • Mythology Gag: When Robin fantasizes winning the grand prize, it's with his face superimposed onto the chests of various live-action movie Batmen.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Special Guest: The real-life dance crew Jabbawockeez play a notable role, in the form of dolls of them that Robin animates with Raven's spell book in order to create the ultimate dance troupe for the competition.
  • Time Travel: In order to give Robin dance lessons and a chance to win the competition after the Jabbawockeez abandon him, Vibe takes him back in time to the '80s to see the origins of hip-hop dancing firsthand. It takes six years for him to be a master, but they arrive back in the present after only seconds seem to have passed.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: The first Part ends with the Jabbawockeez dolls that Robin brought to life to act as his dance crew deciding to cut Robin from the group.
  • The Voiceless: The Jabbawockeez communicate entirely in dance moves, with subtitles often but not always provided.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Robin spends six years learning how to actually dance, apologizes to the other Titans for skipping practice in order to convince them to form a team together, and manage to beat the supernaturally talented Jabbawockeez. But when it's time for the victory photo, the other Titans squish Robin between them in order to all fit into frame, and Robin breaks down crying because now Batman will be wearing an embarrassing picture of him for a whole year.
