Lord Stingray introduces his new pirate radio station, which urges the prisoners to fight Superjail's sadistic system, but faces competition from a talking rat's (the talking rat seen at the end of "Uh-Oh, It's Magic") radio show that makes fun of Superjail and prison life. Meanwhile, the Warden creates a TV station to sate the imprisoned masses.

"Planet Radio" contains examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: While basically all the characters are involved, there's some special focus paid to Lord Stingray and The Rat, as well as Fatty attempting to play hero.
  • Art Shift: Alice's face suddenly becomes a LOT more detailed and grotesque as the Warden refers to her as a "beautiful and strong" woman, before shifting back to the style used before.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Fatty, of all characters, is the one to lead the charge to save "Jailpup" (Jailbot) from Lord Stingray and the rat horde. The inmates proceed to face off in a big battle against the rats, with Alice joining in.
  • Continuity Nod: A whole lot stuffed into this episode.
    • The storage room from "Jailbot 2.0" returns.
    • The shower scene of inmates listening to Stingray's radio station includes the same bunch of guys that were listening to Paul's fantasies in "Sticky Discharge". But instead of their models being copy and pasted, they've actually been redrawn for the shot by a different artist.
    • The Rat from the ending of "Uh-Oh, It's Magic" has returned with a vengeance. But then he dies, and Gary's vocal cords find themselves in Peedee's puppet shell.
    • The furnace worker that Ash burnt in "Mr. Grumpy-Pants" is seen listening into the radio. He suffers yet another fiery death, along with another worker seen with him.
    • Although Alice said she quit at the end of "Nightshift", she seems to not mind the idea of hosting her own cooking show.
    • D.L. Diamond can be seen in the channels that the inmates flip through, advertising his power crystals.
    • Bobo ("Terrorarium") returns to assist another inmate in breaking out of his cell, during an angry riot over the whereabouts of the "Jailpup" show.
    • The original Jailbot prototypes ("Jailbot 2.0") return to save Fatty from being crushed, and then go to try to assist Jailbot.
    • Lord Stingray finds his old damaged ship within all the wreckage in the storage room.
    • One of the Warden's machines (the one that shot lasers out of its eyes) returns in the storage room and is used by the rats. (Although instead of shooting out lasers it shot out bullets.)
    • The same music from the climax of "Lord Stingray Crash Party" is reused again at the climax of this episode. (Coincidentally, both episode feature Stingray as the antagonist.)
  • Disney Death: Jailbot is crushed and damaged, but reboots while the inmates are mourning his "death". He then proceeds to violently slaughter said inmates.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: There are two inmates that bear a striking resemblance to Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters. They can be seen working in the surveillance room.
  • Sequel Hook: Prison Peedee rises from the pile of junk, letting the audience know that they still haven't heard the last of him.
  • Show Within a Show: Jailbot, Gary, and Fatty star in "Jailpup", a parody of Lassie that the other inmates quickly fall in love with.
  • Stock Footage: The TV screens from "Best Friends Forever" are recycled once more, in the scene where the Warden and Jared are arguing over series that have been greenlighted.
    • The very first shot of the episode after the opening sequence (the sun rising over Superjail) is recycled from "Vacation", except it's been horizontally flipped.
    • The same inmate's head is copy and pasted over and over in the cafeteria brawl, when body parts get flung into the Warden's dumbwaiter. The dismembered hands and organs are also the same drawings duplicated.
    • When Alice seizes the radios, she passes by the factory background from "Mr.Grumpy-Pants".
    • The "super-deformed Warden and dolphins" animation is used twice, first when the Warden introduces his "WTV" network, and then when the giant TV crashes and shatters in the climactic battle. The animation is then re-used in "Burn Stoolie Burn", but with the dolphins colored pink instead of gray.
    • Ash wants to watch a TV show about a furnace, which happens to be the same furnace background used from "Mr. Grumpy-Pants" (as well as a bit earlier in this episode).
      • Jean and Paul's seated poses in the cell are lifted from character models used for "Superbar" (in the scene where Nicky plots the escape).
    • The Doctor's body part storage room ("Mayhem Donor") is re-used, for when his TV show is shown.
    • The Twins' stock character art (the picture of them facing forward and smirking) is recycled for their "2" show, with them stiffly animated to be jumping on the trampolines.
    • The surveillance center from "Best Friends Forever" is re-used, when the staff meet there to try to find the whereabouts of the "Planet Radio" channel.
    • When Alice strikes one pose during the "Cats" parody number, two of the cat inmates are duplicated and flipped to make four of them dancing with her.
  • Sequel Episode: For both Peedee (the talking rat) and Stingray.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Fatty is killed by Jailbot, who then moves on to kill Ash and the rest of the inmates (not even sparing Jean and Paul).
