Go To

Airdate: Monday, September 30, 2002

Sender: David Jacobus, Astoria NY

Strong Bad: (rapping) I check e-mail from the front to the back, I said check e-mail from the front to the back I said check...

After attempting to read "Dear Strong Bad" in different intonations, Strong Bad gets to the bulk of this week's email: David Jacobus wants to know if Strong Bad has any tips about fishing, like "any sort of special lure or jig to attract the fishs [sic]". Strong Bad answers David's question with a cut-away to him and Coach Z on a "Fish Show". Strong Bad's idea of a fish lure involves actually calling to the fish with offers of free worms and phytoplankton. His attempt at jig fishing is rather more successful, even though it literally involves dancing a jig while singing "Come on and get in the boat, fish / Come on and get in the boat, fish-fish!"

Coach Z: Oh, they got in the boat... fish-fish!

Strong Bad admits his ignorance on fishing, but suggests the jig might actually work, or at least work on the ladies.

Strong Bad: You know, like, "Come on and come to my house, ladies! Come on and come to my house, girls girls!" ...Actually, I don't really know anything about the ladies either. I mean I do! I mean—WHGT! JGTH! YES I'M AWESOME! (runs off)
(The Paper comes down.)

Tropes:

  • Casanova Wannabe: Strong Bad accidentally admits that he doesn't know much about the ladies.
  • Easter Egg: After the email is over in the Flash version, you can click on the word "fishing" to play a very simple game called Fishing Challenge '91 that's based on the events of the email. The YouTube version just plays a small snippet by itself as a stinger.
  • Literal-Minded: Strong Bad assumes that jig fishing involves dancing an actual jig.
  • Pluralses: David writes "fishs" in his email, which Strong Bad pronounces as "fish-iss... iss".
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Strong Bad bolts after he accidentally admits to being a Casanova Wannabe.
  • Stylistic Suck: The "Fishing Challenge '91" minigame has poorly-digitized graphics and sound, which Strong Bad describes as "the pinnacle of graphics".
  • Verbal Backspace: Strong Bad immediately tries to back-track when he accidentally admits he doesn't know anything about the ladies.

Strong Bad: Whoa! Look at that title screen! Man, the 386 never ceases to amaze me. (over the instructions screen) No way! This... is the pinnacle... of graphics. They're never gonna get any better than this. I bet the sound's just as good, too! (proceeds to play for a few seconds.) (in the DVD version, a large red fish jumps into Strong Bad's boat after a short while. text reads "Congrats! You caught the big one!)
Strong Bad: (DVD version only) I can safely say: this is the most fulfilling video gaming experience I've ever had in-a my whole life.
