Dewicking Nice Hat

* NiceHat: Buddy starts out with a comically small "dixie cup" hat. When he decides to be an explorer, he switches to a tricorne that matches his black coat. The portrait of him in the library sports a tiny blue bowler hat, showing that the real Buddy liked small hats.

* LibraryEpisode: This episode takes place entirely in the library at Beach City as Connie gets a head start on her studies. When Steven discovers Buddy Buddwick's journal, they read it together, imagining the events therein. It's revealed at the end of the episode that this is the library that Buddwick founded.

* {{Adorkable}}: Steven is overjoyed to find the library is full of "BOOKS!", and Connie is preemptively studying for the ''next'' grade, just because she wants to.

* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Buddy managed to get to many Gem sites despite their remote location, navigating terrain that is treacherous or even [[OffscreenTeleportation seemingly-impossible to get through]]. In particular, the Lunar Sea Spire is completely surrounded by whirlpools and waterfalls hundreds of feet high, [[{{Bizarrchitecture}} as the whole thing is located in a depression of the ocean's surface]]. Considering how many of those locations hosted Gem Monsters when the Crystal Gems visited them with Steven, either they weren't interested in a lone human or he had to navigate around them somehow.

** Buddy wanders right past some of the Crystal Shrimp in the Sea Spire. Although "Cheeseburger Backpack" had the gems treat these like an obstacle to be avoided, "The Test" later revealed that the whole mission was just a test for Steven, so they were likely harmless all along.

* TheNicknamer: Buddy from Steven's perspective, he doesn't know the Gem names of the locations, so he gives them names (like calling the Communication Hub the "Steeple of Hubris"). He got the Moon Goddess statue right though (or, possibly, the Gems use his name for it for some reason).

To say these are foreshadowing is either speculation, wrong, or a spoiler for a future episode.

* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** Among Buddy's drawings is a robotic palanquin, similar to the one used by Blue Diamond in "The Answer". This one been abandoned on Earth for reasons unknown. Steven doesn't know what it is, presumably because Garnet never specifically described it in her story in that episode.
** Rose demonstrates the ability to command wildlife, specifically lions. She's also separated from the other Crystal Gems and walking away from the Sand Castle, a Corrupted Gem that the others won't bubble until much later, suggesting she had another purpose for being there. It's not clear what this means about Lion, but it definitely means ''something''.
** Rose says that Buddy's books will benefit readers, implying they'll be filled with lore about the Gems. And the man wrote down a ''whole'' library, easily accessible to Steven and Connie.

The whole EPISODE isn't a Cavalcade because there's nothing tying those together. The tour of old sites is.

* CallForward: As mentioned under ContinuityCavalcade, Buddy visits many places that Steven is already familiar with in his journey.

** The sand castle from "Steven's Lion". Rose is there with a bunch of (evidently native and certainly not pink) lions. The desert the castle is in is also shown to be somewhere in central Africa.
