"Are you sure you are ready to get back into the fight?"

Following Order 66, Ahsoka tries to find her place.

Tropes:

  • 10-Minute Retirement: After the birth of the Empire, Order 66 wiping out the Jedi Order, and the death of Padme, Ahsoka decided she was done with fighting and tried to have a quiet life on a farming planet. However, after seeing the cruelty of the Empire when an Inquistor destroys an innocent farm village, she realized that Organa was right - she still has a duty to perform.
  • Broad Strokes: The episode checks off the broad plot points of the Ahsoka novel, but any similarity ends there to keep the episode inside a ~20 minute runtime.
  • Call-Forward:
  • Call on Me: Organa leaves Ahsoka a comm device should she need his help. She takes him up on it by the end.
  • Call to Agriculture: Ahsoka tries to live a quiet, normal life as a farm worker in the Outer Rim, until a villager sells her out to the Empire.
  • The Cameo:
    • Mon Mothma is one of the mourners at Padmé's funeral.
    • Rex has a non-speaking appearance on guard duty near the Y-Wing he and Ahsoka used to escape from the Tribunal.
  • Can't Stay Normal: Ahsoka is tired of fighting and tries to live a normal life, but when a villager is nearly crushed by hay bales, she reflexively uses her Force powers to protect her. From there, an Inquisitor is summoned and Ahsoka realizes she can't avoid fighting any longer.
  • Continuity Nod: Ahsoka still has the Y-Wing that she and Rex used to escape the Tribunal, as the beginning of the episode would take place just days after The Clone Wars finale.
  • Convection, Schmonvection: The Inquisitor and his hostages are in the middle of a burning village without suffering ill effects. The Inquisitor, at least, could be using the Force to protect himself, but the others?
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Inquisitor challenges Ahsoka. Without a lightsaber, she dodges every blow, turns his saber off, then steals it from him and strikes him down, all in a matter of seconds.
  • Death by Secret Identity: The Inquisitor discovers that the Jedi hiding out at the village is in fact Ahsoka Tano, who was believed to be dead. However, he does not get a chance to reveal this to anyone else in the Empire, as he engages Ahsoka in combat and is promptly killed.
  • Downer Beginning: The episode opens with Padmè's funeral. It's revealed that Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, and Ahsoka attended it.
  • Dramatic Irony: The brother proclaims that anyone who is loyal to the Empire has nothing to fear from them. Anyone with an even cursory amount of knowledge of the franchise knows how well that attitude worked out for people like those of Alderaan, and his naïveté ultimately gets the entire village wiped out as a "reward" for handing in a fugitive Jedi with him nearly suffering the same fate.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: The Inquisitor speaks in a deep, growling tone provided by Clancy Brown.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: When Ahsoka decapitates the Inquisitor, the camera is angled to keep it out of frame, followed by a shot of his head falling to the ground, and finally a below-the-shoulders shot of his corpse collapsing.
  • Heel Realization: The brother has one after his actions get nearly his entire village slaughtered, including himself.
  • I Owe You My Life: The sister is grateful to Ahsoka for saving her life and promises not to tell anyone she’s a Jedi. Unfortunately, her brother overheard the conversation and is an Imperial fanatic who reports Ahsoka to the Inquisitorius.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The brother who ratted out Ahsoka to the Empire is utterly distraught when his actions lead to the Inquisitor burning his village to the ground and killing most of his friends and neighbors.
  • Mythology Gag: Ahsoka uses the alias "Ashla", which was not only the original name George Lucas conceived for the light side of the Forcenote , but was also later considered as Ahsoka's name during development of The Clone Wars. It was also one of the aliases she used in the Ahsoka novel.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished:
    • Ahsoka uses the Force to save a villager. It gets her ratted out to the Empire by said villager's brother for being a Jedi.
    • That same villager's brother is a staunch supporter for the Empire and is willing to turn in Ahsoka thinking that it's the right thing to do. Unfortunately, the Empire sends in an Inquisitor to brutally slaughter his co-workers and interrogate them for information on the Jedi's whereabouts.
  • No Name Given: The Inquisitor is not referred to by a rank and is only credited as "Inquisitor". The village siblings are also only credited as "Village Brother" and "Village Sister".
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Senator Bail Organa's response to the two clone troopers that approached him is also directed toward Ahsoka, who's hiding nearby, reminding her of her duties and that she can always rely on him for help should she need it. The conversation is contextually odd to the oblivious clone troopers, so they just shrug as they escort Bail back to the funeral procession.
  • Police State: The Empire is at the beginning of the episode no more than a few days old (officially speaking), but even the tranquil world of Naboo is under extreme surveillance and control, with Clone Troopers forbidding people, even government employees like Bail Organa, to stand on perfectly innocent balconies because he's away from the funeral procession.
    • It makes sense that Naboo would be heavily militarized at that time; there were thousands in attendance for Senator Amidala's funeral, including a multitude of Senators and other public officials, and it was also the homeworld of now-Emperor Palpatine.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated:
    • The discussion between Organa and Ahsoka at the beginning indicates they believe Anakin was also a victim of Order 66, which is a Call-Forward to Ahsoka learning that Darth Vader is her former master in Star Wars Rebels.
    • The Inquisitor is surprised that the Jedi he came looking for is Ahsoka and says that she is supposed to be dead.
  • The Reveal: Ahsoka was present at Padmè's funeral on Naboo, hiding among the crowd of mourners.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: The brother rats out Ahsoka for being a Jedi. The Inquisitor burns the village to the ground because she's not there, then tries to "reward" him when she does show up with a lightsaber to the back.
Brother: See, I told you they'd be back!
Inquisitor: So you did. Here is your reward. [raises lightsaber]
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Ahsoka silently leaps to the rooftop of the gazebo when Organa is distracted by clones from the Coruscant Guard.
  • Sword Drag: The Inquisitor likes dragging his lightsaber through the dirt, scorching it as he goes. The villagers are terrifingly intimidated by it. Ahsoka, made of much sterner stuff, just sees a cheap scare tactic.
  • Too Dumb to Live: The brother ignores his sister's warnings that their hovercart is getting dangerously overloaded (something that's happened at least once before), which nearly leads to her being crushed. When Ahsoka saves her, he rats her out to the Inquistitor, who kills nearly everyone else in his village For the Evulz, and even then he's still begging for a reward. It takes Ahsoka saving him from execution to get him to see the light.
  • Underestimating Badassery: The Inquisitor recognizes Ahsoka and believes he'll be rewarded for her capture. It's a mistake he doesn't live long enough to regret.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: The brother rats out Ahsoka to the Empire once he discovers her true nature, and this is after she saved his sister from being crushed by the hay bales he haphazardly overloaded their hovercraft with. Even when Ahsoka is actively trying to save his life from the Inquisitor, he still tries lobbying for a reward; it's only after she saves him from being executed that he realizes his grave error, but by that point, his actions have resulted in the destruction of their home and the deaths of their friends and co-workers.
  • Use Their Own Weapon Against Them: Ahsoka, lacking her lightsabers, simply steals the Inquisitor's saber and beheads him with it.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: The brother praises Emperor Palpatine for bringing peace to the Galaxy after the defeats of the Jedi and the Separatists who both caused the Clone Wars, unaware Palpatine himself was the one who orchestrated the war in the first place. The elder admonishes him, saying the so-called peace the Emperor brought was through persecution.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: While 'hero' is inaccurate, the sister calls her brother out on his actions leading to the destruction of their home and the deaths of all their friends, even outright grabbing his head and forcing him to take in the destruction while yelling, "Look what you did!"
