Tropes in this episode include:

  • Aloof Big Brother: Demetrius doesn't think highly of his little brother based on how quick and dismissive he was during their phone call.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Damian says this to his fangirls when they openly question if they can meet his father.
  • Blatant Lies: Loid informs Damian that his daughter was very impressed with his speech about his father's career. The subtitle assures the audience that no such thing occurred.
  • Call-Back:
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Twilight notes how easy it would be to assassinate Donovan on a whim, but maintaining ongoing communications with the politician would be of great benefit to WISE.
  • Cerebus Retcon: Damian recounts the Orientation Punching incident in a negative light as his father chose not to do anything to support him in the coming weeks nor did he seek retribution for his humiliation.
  • Death Glare: Desmond gives a grim expression after Damian tries to make a mountain out of his punching molehill.
  • Dramatic Irony:
    • Damian's stooges believe that Anya only wants to get close to Damian as a way of meeting his father Donovan.
    • Damian himself wonders if Anya's spot-on accusations about his insecurities are the result of mind reading.
  • Easily Forgiven: To Loid and Damian's shock, Desmond isn't bothered by what the Forger daughter did to his second son and he easily accepts Loid's apology.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Becky the romanticist finds Anya peeking at Scion Boy's test scores to be a borderline stalker.
  • Friendship Denial: As Loid is getting ready to leave the school grounds after talking to Donovan, he tells Damian that he hopes he and Anya can be friends so they can play in each other's homes. Damian giddily smiles as he ponders the possibility, but when Emile and Ewen snap him out of it, Damian yells at Loid that he's not interested in being friends with a commoner.
  • Hypocrite: The coat riders accuse Anya of trying to get close to Damian just so he can get close to his big-shot father. Like they're any better.
  • The Infiltration: Agent Twilight dons a new disguise to infiltrate the end-of-term party that his target Donovan Desmond will be attending.
  • Must Make Amends: Loid's gambit involves apologizing to Desmond for his daughter's righteous act of violence and offers to go to his house to bring an apology gift.
  • Noodle Incident: Loid recalls a time his daughter said she was going to rescue candy hostages at the store using a coupon. Loid just told her to do her best.
  • Parental Neglect: During their meeting, Donavan makes it clear to Loid and Damian that he doesn't care that Anya punched Damian when he readily accepts Loid's apology over Anya's behavior. When Damian tries to make himself the innocent victim of Anya's unprovoked aggression (in reality, Anya punched him because she got tired of him bullying Becky and her), Donovan gives him a Death Glare that makes him stop talking. Also, despite being his own flesh and blood, Donovan considers Damian a complete stranger, and subtly tells Loid, well within earshot of Damian, that he has no interest in getting to know his own son. This causes Loid to state that although it can be frustrating being Anya's father because she can be hard to understand and keep up with at times, he still loves his daughter dearly for who she is, and low-key suggest that Donovan do the same for Damian.
  • Plan B Resolution: The reason why Twilight was assigned to Operation Strix was because he's WISE's top agent, and the initial hope was that he would get a woman to pose as his wife and adopt a child that would get top marks and earn enough Stella to become an Imperial Scholar as a way to infiltrate the gathering parents/guardians of Imperial Scholars attend, which are comprised of Chairman of the Party Donavan Desmond, other high ranking government and military officials, captains of industry, and even celebrities. Unfortunately, that child turned out to be Anya, and since there was little hope of her becoming an Imperial Scholar, the plan then became her befriending Damian and eventually get invited to the Desmond residence and gather intel there, but thanks to the punch during orientation day, that plan had to be shelved as well. Since security was extremely tight at the event, due to the VIPs', Twilight was reduced to skulking around the school in disguise with the high hopes that he would get to "casually" bump into Donovan as Loid Forger.
  • Rousing Speech: Anya gives one to Damian to give him the motivation to confront his father while casting aside his fears and doubts.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Anya's efforts to spy on Damian result in her target accusing her of being this.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: When Donovan's bodyguards announce that it's time for the conversation to end, Loid politely excuses himself and leaves (to spy from a high vantage point). Donavan then tells Damian he's going if there's nothing to talk about, Damian remembers Anya's Rousing Speech, so he tells Donovan about how he did badly in his most recent language test but got top grades on his other subjects, and how he got a Stella for his art project. This prompts Donovan to blandly say "well done, keep going and make the family name proud," which is enough to make Damian happily celebrate with Emile and Ewen.
