Tropes that appear in this episode:

  • Adorably Precocious Child: Becky has a preference for mature romance dramas.
  • All for Nothing: Even though Damian won first place thanks to Anya's help, he has no intention of showing it to his father due to how trashy it looks. Thus sending her latest friendship scheme to waste.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Deconstructed. Damian begins to lash out at his groupmates due to his frustrations over the art project while shouting at them to surrender their supplies. This gets him into hot water with Housemaster Henderson over his uncouth behavior.
  • Call-Back: The Stinger references Yor's horrible cooking skills from the previous episode, and also explains how Yuri got so tough to be able to withstand Yor's powerful slaps in the episode when he asks her and Loid to prove they're really married. In a Flash Back, a teenage Yor is seen cooking several meals for a young Yuri to try out, meals so disgusting that they have to be pixelated for the audience. Yuri happily eats them despite tasting horrible and causing him to vomit, and he even merrily compliments her cooking "skills," and she responds by bashfully delivering an incredibly powerful slap that happily sends him flying. In the present, Yuri's commanding officer in the S.S.S. commends him for successfully completing a mission, and also recommends him going to the hospital as he was shot at, fell off a rooftop, and got hit by a truck, but Yuri, with some scrapes and band aids on his face, responding that he's perfectly fine and needs to focus on the next mission.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The second segment focuses on Sylvia as she goes about her day while evading enemy spies.
  • Flower Motifs: The camera focuses on some dandelions, a hardy plant representing perseverance, when the source of Yuri's superhuman durability is explained.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Anya lays her head on the table depressed over her failed Operation Dog, her dog statue has the same depression lines as her.
  • Hand Signals: Handler inside a shop, and Twilight across the street discreetly gaze at one another through a window and carry out an entire mission's briefing without uttering a single spoken word, instead communicating with subtle hand signs and interacting with nearby personal objects using a specific motion or patterns of motions.
  • Hope Bringer: The judges for the art projects considered Damian's griffin to be this. Its ability to remain regal despite its torn and ruined state gave the judges hope that their country will survive the war and stand proud like the griffin.
  • In-Series Nickname: Sylvia is regarded as the "Fullmetal Lady" on account of her tough as iron personality and how she can handle the greatest of situations without breaking.
  • Loophole Abuse: After Henderson tells her to redo her art project over as she made a human (Loid) instead of an animal, Becky uses the argument that humans also count as animals. After a moment of stupefaction, he permits her to use it.
  • Mistaken for Profound: The teachers judging the art projects think Anya and Damian's ugly griffins are a clever allegory for Ostania's postwar morale and give the children first place.
  • Parental Neglect: Damian truly believes that his father doesn't care or worry about him given how he's barely involved in the boy's life, not even to check if he's okay after Anya hit him on orientation day.
  • Precocious Crush: Becky becomes enamored with Loid after seeing Anya's photo of him.
  • Previously on…: Anya does a recap of how her scheme to win Damian's friendship with her new dog failed.
  • Secret Test of Character: Henderson considers the arts and crafts group project not just a test of creativity, but to test the students in their ability to collaborate with each other despite their limited resources.
  • Self-Serving Memory: In Anya's recap, Damian tells her that she'll let her come over to his house to play if she can think of a cool name for her new dog. The subtitle informs the audience that he never said that.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Damian hopes to create a stellar griffin miniature that can earn him the pride of his grim father.
