Food PBFFT! Truck

Original air date: 5/13/2022 (produced in 2021)

SpongeBob and Squidward are sent to drive a food truck to sell Krabby Patties. However, they crash land in Rock Bottom, and can't find any customers.

"Food PBFFT! Truck" contains examples of:

  • The Alleged Car: The Krusty Kruiser. Squidward says that it looks like a dump at first when part of it falls off, but it sustains quite a beating over the course of the episode, constantly crashing and being rammed out of the way by other food trucks. The Last Straw is when Krabs throws a Krabby Patty onto it, causing it to collapse.
  • Continuity Nod: This isn't the first time the Krusty Krab has had a food truck.
  • Cutaway Gag: Squidward says that he left his wallet in his other pants. We then cut to a pair of jeans, fitted with various leg holes and a wallet sticking out of the pocket, on Squidward's bed.
  • Global Currency Exception: Mr. Krabs pays SpongeBob and Squidward in "Krusty Kash", which can be spent anywhere except the Krusty Krab.
  • Growling Gut: At the end, Mr. Krabs's stomach growls after having not eaten all day due to selling krabby patties. This forces him to buy a krabby patty from SpongeBob and Squidward.
  • I'm Melting!: Happens to SpongeBob and Squidward when they are unable to sell krabby patties to the Rock Bottomites.
  • Loophole Abuse: When Mr. Krabs refuses to let SpongeBob and Squidward go home until they sell a krabby patties, he realizes he hasn't eaten anything and Squidward forces him to pay for a krabby patty, thereby making a successful sale. Mr. Krabs himself doesn't mind too much since the money goes back into his wallet anyway.
  • Medium Blending: Mr. Krabs get so angry that SpongeBob and Squidward hadn't sold any patties that he steams himself into a live-action crab.
  • Saw It in a Movie Once: SpongeBob sets a trap for the customer by covering a hole with leaves. He says he saw it in a Junglefish comic.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The reason Rock Bottom was deserted was because all the citizens were buying krabby patties at the Krusty Krab during their yearly visit, and the Rock Bottomite that they've been chasing is given a krabby patty by his friend.
  • Shock and Awe: Happens to SpongeBob and Squidward after they chase the Rock Bottomite onto a telephone pole, and two more times later by jellyfish.
  • Tastes Like Feet: Mr. Krabs claims that eating a krabby patty he paid for makes it taste like old snail litter.
  • Wingding Eyes: SpongeBob's pupils turn into hearts a couple times when Mr. Krabs shows them the food truck.

Upturn Girls

Original air date: 5/13/2022 (produced in 2021)

Pearl takes Narlene on a trip to see the city.

"Upturn Girls" contains examples of:

  • Air Quotes: Narlene is excited to go "reconnoitering" with Pearl. Pearl realizes that she doesn't have any money and has to get some from Krabs. She tells Narlene, "If we want to do that (making air quotes) 'noitering' thing in the city, I'll need an advance on my allowance."
  • Analogy Backfire: Upset at Pearl taking so long to cook, Krabs says that it's like she's never cooked a Krabby Patty before. Pearl complains that she never has.
  • Apathetic Clerk: Pearl as the Krusty Krab's new fry cook. She says "here's your food, or whatever" when dropping off a customer's Krabby Patty, is seen filing her nails rather than working, and outright admits that she doesn't care about the customers (and is thus excited to get out of the place).
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Pearl points up to a literal skyscraper. You can tell by the building scraping the sky background.
  • Chekhov's Gag: When Narlene is first taken to the city, she steps on and eats a bunch of chewing gum. At the end, Pearl escapes the building by sticking Narlene's gum in her blowhole and blows it up, allowing them to balloon to safety.
    • Pearl steals Krabs' diamond credit card. When she and Narlene enter Upturn's, Lady Upturn inspects it to make sure it's legit. The credit card comes up again at the end, when Pearl and Narlene and floating away while pursued by security. Pearl taunts the guards with the card and then drops it, causing them to dive after it and collapse.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Pearl and Narlene take a Scuber to get to the city. Man Ray takes one at the end of "Man Ray Returns".
    • Mr. Krabs' credit card was first seen in "Whale of a Birthday". While it looks noticeably different, the credit card number is still the same.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode mostly focuses on Pearl and Narlene.
  • Description Cut: SpongeBob wants to join Narlene and Pearl, but he has to stay behind and serve the "good people" frequenting the restaurant. Cut to a Gross-Up Close-Up of various disgusting Krusty Krab patrons, accompanied by loud burping and chewing sounds.
  • The Door Slams You: A variant. Narlene rips off the automatic glass door to Upturn's so a customer can get in. She ends up dropping the door on Lady Upturn.
  • Girl's Night Out Episode: Pearl and Narlene hang out together for a majority of the episode.
  • Gross Gum Gag: Pearl takes Narlene out to see the city. The first thing she does is step in some gum, which she removes from her foot and chews, enjoying it. Pearl is disgusted.
Pearl: The city also has lots of things that aren't totally gross!
  • Had the Silly Thing in Reverse: Pearl serves a Krabby Patty inside-out; it has two patties on the top and bottom, with inverted buns inside.
  • Idea Bulb: When Pearl gets the idea to take Narlene on a trip, to both let SpongeBob keep working and get Pearl out of it, her blowhole briefly takes the form of, and illuminates like, a lightbulb.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: SpongeBob's tour of Bikini Bottom includes seeing his "favorite fire hydrant", watching an old man feed clams, and visiting a "cool rock".
  • The Killjoy: Lady Upturn, the owner of Upturn's, is a Rich Bitch who tells Pearl and Narlene that shopping needs to be taken seriously; she only lets them in once they prove that they have the money to buy stuff. Towards the end, Lady Upturn gets offended by Pearl and Narlene's well-intentioned shenanigans, sending security after them and threatening to ban them from the store for life.
  • Made of Explodium: Downtown, a bus runs into a pothole, flips over, and then explodes. Narlene and Pearl almost get hit by a runaway tire.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The sights of the city cause Narlene to say, "It's like walking through a TV show!"
  • Out of Focus: Notably, SpongeBob isn't in a lot of this episode. He gets a brief scene at the beginning, and Nobby helps him out later, but he's gone by the halfway point.
  • Primp of Contempt: Pearl apathetically serves a customer food and does not share SpongeBob's enthusiasm. We briefly see her filing her nails with a bored expression.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: When Pearl sees all the shoes on display at the shoe department:
    Pearl: So. Many. Shoes!
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Pearl to Lady Upturn, when she says she'll ban them from the store just because they were having fun and not taking shopping seriously like she wanted.
Pearl: So what if my friend doesn't do things the way city people do? At least she's not a stuck-up snob like you!
  • Series Continuity Error: Pearl complains that she's never cooked a Krabby Patty before, and is utterly inept at it. However, in "Welcome to the Bikini Bottom Triangle", she does it without complaining and seems to be okay at it.
  • Sequel Hook: The episode ends with Narlene inviting Pearl to go out to the country with her and Nobby.
  • Shockingly Expensive Bill: Krabs ends up with an incredibly long bill (enough to wrap around him multiple times) from Pearl's purchases at Upturn's with his credit card.
  • Something We Forgot: At the end of the episode, Pearl, Narlene, and Nobby happily run out of the Krusty Krab, with Krabs despairingly following behind. We then cut to SpongeBob, completely buried under rubble from Nobby throwing everything around the kitchen.
  • Squick: In-universe.
    • Narlene spits on her foot and has Pearl shake it; she's disgusted, but does so anyways, and then wipes her hand on a grossed-out customer as the scene continues.
    • When Pearl sees Narlene eating gum off the sidewalk:
Pearl: [gently] Uh, the city also has a lot of things in it that [flatly] aren't gross.
  • "Take Your Child to Work Day" Plot: The episode begins with Pearl cooking in the kitchen, and Mr. Krabs says that it's "Put Your Daughter to Work Day".
  • Teens Love Shopping: Pearl, a teenager, takes Narlene to her favorite department store. They have fun dressing up, trying on shoes, and admiring the perfume.
  • Visible Odor: The perfumes are portrayed as colored clouds. The ones Pearl likes are pink, while Narlene's disgusting mushroom one is green.
  • Visual Pun: Pearl and Narlene see a "skyscraper": a tall building with a sharp top that literally tears through the sky.
  • Wilting Odor: Narlene takes out a mushroom perfume. The smell is so bad that it causes most of the people in the perfume department to outright melt.
