Peter Parker's first date with Felicia Hardy is interrupted when she's kidnapped by a mad scientist with four mechanical arms looking for revenge. Spider-Man tries to save the day but he's overpowered and only makes things worse. Where Spider-Man fails it seems Peter Parker may get the job done.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Origin Connection:
    • Both Doc Ock and Peter knew each other as he was a mentor to Parker at a science camp when they were younger. In the comics, they never knew each other until Octavius became Doctor Octopus.
    • He also has a vendetta towards the Hardys as they stopped the funding for his science research, which caused his accident to be infused with his tentacles. Both Doc Ock and Black Cat hardly knew each other in the comics.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: After Felicia is kidnapped by Doctor Octopus, Peter gives his account to the authorities and... is promptly laughed at. Because in a world that has seen Spider-Man, the Lizard, the Scorpion, giant Spider-Slayer robots and various unrelated super heroes (who have their own super villains), how could a guy with four mechanical arms grafted to his body possibly exist?
  • Bluff the Impostor: Peter is allowed to speak to Doctor Octopus, and reminds him that he was his teacher at science camp, and had read his published books.
Doc Ock: What about Fusion Potential of the Super Collider?
Peter: You never wrote that? You were testing me, weren't you?
    Doc Ock: And you passed!
  • Broken Pedestal: Doctor Octopus to Peter; Doctor Octavius was Peter's science teacher and hugely instrumental in shaping Peter's own love of science, but when he turned into a maniac willing to risk destroying New York to prove his theories are correct, Peter lost all respect for him.
  • Bullying the Dragon: J. Jonah Jameson sure has a way with words when calling out Doc Ock for kidnapping Felicia Hardy.
Doc Ock: You dare talk that way to a scientist?!
Jameson: Scientist? You're just some coward who kidnapped an innocent girl!
[Doc Ock crushed his portable TV]
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: While Doc Ock was a mentor figure towards as child when he attended his science camp, Doc Ock barely remembers Peter. Peter even lampshades that Doc Ock must not remember him by this point.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Jameson's reaction to Doc Ock throwing Peter out of the window.
Jameson: Even Parker didn't deserve that!
  • False Reassurance:
Peter: Don't worry, everything will be okay.
Jameson: I'll believe it when I see it!
  • Logical Weakness: Spidey uses Doc Ock's mind and ego against him, threatening his fusion battery in order to bait him to an electromagnet to capture him while saving Felicia and Jameson.
  • Never My Fault: Doc Ock blames the Hardy Foundation for his Start of Darkness. He could have found a safer alternative to his fusion battery experiment, but was too desperate to continue.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero/What the Hell, Hero?: Spider-Man follows Jameson to where Doc Ock would meet him. Doc Ock thinks he's been set up, which led to him getting a second hostage and demands the ransom to be doubled. Mrs. Hardy and even Robbie calls him out on it.
    Jameson: You web-headed foul-up!
Spider-Man: Hey, nice to see you too, picklepuss!
[After a brief fight, Doc Ock throws Spider-Man out the window, to the river. He swims back to the docks.]
Spider-Man: (barging through the door) You're not gonna get rid of me tha— (finds the place empty) They're gone. I really blew it this time.
    • Again when he turned on a device to trap Doc Ock, which also sets off rocket propellers that will fire above Jameson and Felicia.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Octavius wants to continue developing his fusion battery project to create a new power source. Unfortunately, his villainous mind convinces to abduct Felicia in hopes of ransoming enough money to do it.
  • Would Hit a Girl: After Doc Ock throws Peter out a window.
    Felicia: You... you heartless freak!
Doc Ock: Freak?! I am merely the victim of an accident. And anyone can have an "accident!"
  • You Said You Would Let Them Go: Peter reminds Doc Ock that he was supposed to let Felicia and Jameson go once he received the ransom. Octavius decides to break his promise to continue holding them as leverage, and the fact that Felicia's mother cut off his funding.
