An inquiry by Charlie Hatt gets the engines thinking about the Thin Clergyman. Before long, celebrations are planned to celebrate his 100th birthday, but not everything goes to plan.

This special contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: Of the final Railway Series book Thomas and His Friends.
  • Shout-Out: Bear elaborating on the tunnel's collapse is a reference to the "Dead Parrot" sketch of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
  • Stock Footage: Stock footage from "Swan Song", "Mistrust", "Percy's Post" and "Engines of All Trades" is used.
  • Time Skip: In Edward's flashback, the first few scenes take place in 1945 where The Three Railway Engines was published. Then the next scene fast-forwards into the next year where Thomas the Tank Engine was published.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: The episode contains two flashbacks. One involving Edward telling Charlie Hatt about the first two Railway Series books being published in 1945 and 1946. The second flashback involves Henry telling Emily about the a conversation with the Fat Controller and Doctor Beeching.
