Recap / Sixteen S 3 E 17 Love At Worst Sight

Go To

Marlowe gets a job at Spin This with Wyatt's ex-girlfriend Serena and her current boyfriend Chad. This results in conflict with Wyatt being insecure, but ends with the possibility of reconciliation between him and Serena. Jonesy hits a new low when he pulls a con to trick people into buying eyeglasses.

Episode Tropes:

  • Cassandra Truth: Jonesy insists he didn't pull his scam on Jude. The audience knows he didn't because he got the idea after Jude failed his eye exam. When he redoes the test, it's revealed he could read the eye chart just fine, he just thought he was supposed to read it as one word.
  • Character Development: While Wyatt is still shown being insecure, he handles an admittedly difficult situation with his ex far more maturely. His insecurity is from concern the friendship will affect his relationship with Marlowe rather than discomfort of being around Serena, he offers them concert tickets as an apology gesture, and when Serena is so enamored by his maturity that she wants him back, he turns her down and tries to do it privately so Marlowe doesn't find out.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: The episode ends with everyone doubled over laughing at the fact Jude thought the letters on the eye chart made up one word.
  • Hypocrite: Serena goes further off into this trope. She dumped Wyatt for being immature, over a text message nonetheless, and tries to get back with him while both are still dating other people.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: Marlowe accuses Wyatt of being selfish and thoughtless when he asks her to quit and get her old job back. Wyatt concedes on the selfish part, but insists he put a lot of thought into it.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Jonesy gets fired for his con.
  • No Sparks: A platonic example: The group tells Wyatt to try to be friends with Chad, but Wyatt finds him so boring that 5 minutes with him is too much for him to bear.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Wyatt was worried that the friendship between Marlowe and Serena would end badly. He was right, but he had no way of knowing it was because Serena would want him back.
  • That Came Out Wrong: Turns out part of the reason Serena wanted Wyatt back is because Marlowe kept saying praises of how great he was. Wyatt responds by saying "Where were you when Serena and I were dating?". He immediately realizes that is not something you should say to your current girlfriend. Marlowe forgives him right away luckily.
