Recap / Simple Samosa Episode 4 "Dadi Ke Saath"

Go To

The episode begins at a train station, where Samosa, Dhokla, and Jalebi are waiting for Vada to arrive. Vada almost misses the train... except that wasn't the train he was looking for, and he is soon riding with his friends to Samosa's grandma's house. When they arrive at the stop near Grandma's house, Grandma herself shows up on a motorcycle and pays more attention to Samosa's friends than her own grandson. Grandma lets Jalebi ride her motorcycle to her house.

At her house, the lights suddenly go out, which inspires Grandma to tell her visitors a scary story about chewed-up foods living in the forest. The lights suddenly go back on a few minutes later; Samosa, in an attempt to get his grandparent's attention, offers to find some coriander for her to cook with. Samosa goes to the nearby forest to find the coriander, and it doesn't take long for him to discover the chewed-up foods Grandma made up are actually real after all.

Samosa manages to team up with the chewed-up foods to scare his friends. Samosa himself appears first and attempts an unsuccessful scare by pretending to be a ghost, then summons the chewed-up foods to pull off a more successful scare. Samosa's grandma reappears and takes the chewed-up foods as her visitors' new friends.

When the gang sets off to leave, Samosa is given the opportunity to ride his grandma's motorcycle. When they make it back to the train, Dhokla, Jalebi, and Vada notice a video Samosa had posted back in the forest where he tries to pass himself off as brave but fails horribly.

"Dadi Ke Saath" contains the following tropes:

  • Anticipatory Breath Spray: The Party Pizza, who is among the chewed-up forest foods, uses a pizza sauce breath spray upon encountering Jalebi.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Vada nearly misses what he assumes is the train he has to board. Another train is revealed a few seconds later which actually does have his friends in it.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: Samosa tries to scare his friends by pretending to be a ghost, using this kind of costume when he does so. The trick is seen through by his friends pretty quickly.
  • Brick Joke: Samosa records himself in the forest trying to act brave but failing horribly. At the end of the episode, Jalebi, Dhokla, and Vada find the recording and laugh at it, at Samosa's expense.
  • Caught in a Snare: Among the chewed-up foods in the forest is a strand of spaghetti who pulls the "rope caught on leg"-type snare on Samosa.
  • Cool Bike: Samosa's grandma is shown riding a motorcycle with cool flame patterns.
  • Cool Shades: Samosa wears them when he rides his grandma's motorcycle.
  • Covered in Kisses: When Samosa's grandma arrives at the train stop, she gives her grandson a bunch of kisses and leaves lip marks all over his face.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Samosa tries to get his grandma to pay attention to him rather than his friends, especially when she lets Jalebi ride her motorcycle instead of him. At the end of the episode, he's given the chance to ride the motorcycle.
  • Impossible Shadow Puppets: Samosa's grandma makes a shadow puppet vaguely resembling a samosa as she tells her story about the chewed-up foods in the forest. The shadow puppet somehow has a pupil in its eye.
  • Instant Humiliation: Just Add YouTube!: Earlier in the episode, Samosa records himself braving the forest... or he would be, if he weren't so scared. He uploads that video on the Internet, and at the end of the episode, Dhokla, Jalebi, and Vada find it and laugh their heads off while Samosa becomes embarrassed.
  • Kids Driving Cars: Jalebi and Samosa are both given permission to ride Grandma's motorbike despite being children.
  • Look Behind You: A person trying to board one of the trains at the beginning of the episode pulls a trick like this ("What's that on your head?") to avoid showing his ticket.
  • Opaque Lenses: Samosa wears Cool Shades when he rides his grandma's motorcycle. The shades completely obscure his eyes from sight.
  • Rule of Scary: Among the ominous things that happen before Samosa arrives with the chewed-up forest foods is that a piano in Grandma's house starts to play an ominous tune completely by itself. It only lasts for a few seconds and is never commented on at all afterwards.
  • Shout-Out: The electric guitar Vada briefly tries to play has Nirvana's X-eyed smiley face logo on it.
  • Stuck in the Doorway: Dhokla gets stuck in the door of the train due to how wide he is. Samosa tries to push him into the train, and ultimately resorts to poking him to make him deflate to a much thinner size, which works.
  • Trip Trap: Jalebi is tripped up by a stretched-out noodle strand from a noodle bowl that came with the other forest foods.
