The Beauty and the Bleats

Original air date: 3/10/2002

In the twenty-second episode of Sheep in the Big City, Swanky and Lady Richington move into a new mansion that has a strict no-sheep policy. Sheep comes across a genie (after accidentally breaking a lamp at Jose's Lamp Store) and wishes to be turned into a half-human-half-sheep to get into Swanky's new building. Unfortunately, Lady Richington has the hots for him.

"The Beauty and the Bleats" contains examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: When Lady Richington and Swanky move into a mansion where sheep aren't welcome, a genie grants Sheep's wish to become a human-Sheep hybrid to get in and Lady Richington falls head over heels in love with him.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: The genie is shown to be distracted by luminous objects, which Sheep uses to his advantage so he can trick the genie into allowing him three more wishes.
  • Black Comedy Animal Cruelty: Lady Richington attends an anti-sheep party at her new digs and compliments an off-screen sheep pinata being realistic. A man tells her that it isn't a pinata, implying that the guests are actually brutalizing a real sheep to the point that its guts are splattering out.
  • Karmic Transformation: Sheep uses his last wish from the genie to become humanoid in appearance so he can see Swanky. When the plan backfires because of Swanky not recognizing him and Lady Richington falling for him, Sheep eventually tricks the genie into giving him three more wishes. After using the first wish to become a sheep again and wasting the second wish on a fancy hat, Sheep uses his last wish to stop Lady Richington from beating him by turning her into a sheep.
  • Shout-Out: The title is a pretty obvious one to The Beauty and the Beast.
    • Lady Richington begins pursuing a half-human Sheep in the same manner as Pepe le Pew.
  • Wasteful Wishing: Sheep wastes his first wish on a fancy hat and his second wish on a larger version of the same hat before he uses his last wish to become humanoid in order to sneak past the security so he can be with Swanky.
    • Near the end of the episode, Sheep tricks the genie into giving him three more wishes. He uses his first wish to become a normal sheep again and his third wish to stop Lady Richington clobbering him by turning her into a sheep, but wastes his second wish on another fancy hat.
  • We Care: "Beauty and the Bleats" features an ad for Bio-Technical Corporate Concern Limited Company where a man representing the company tells the audience that they care about their customers before spiraling into an Anguished Declaration of Love. The announcer nonchalantly states that they are changing their hiring policies.
