Recap / Seinfeld S 9 E 5 The Junk Mail

Go To

Jerry reconnects with an old acquaintance, Frankie Merman, but gets mixed feelings regarding him getting a van they dreamed about when they were kids. George notices that his parents are being distant. Elaine dates a man with a charming smile who once starred in a weird tv commercial. Kramer is annoyed when he keeps getting catalogs in the mail and his attempt to make the post office leave him alone puts him at odds with Newman.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: A pedestrian (Betty) asks Kramer why a dummy he has is wearing a bucket during Kramer's anti-mail stance. Kramer explains that it symbolizes how people like Kramer are turning themselves blind to mail and Betty asks if he should be wearing the bucket. George asks similar questions later on.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even Puddy finds it embarrassing that Elaine is dating a tv pitchman.
  • Kissing Cousins: George resorts to this (dating one of his cousins) to make his parents start paying attention to him.
  • Primal Scene: George, Jerry, Frankie and George's cousin see Frank and Estelle making love in Jerry and Frankie's van and are all disgusted beyond belief.
  • Special Guest: Toby Huss as Jack, Elaine's new boyfriend.
  • The Talk: Frank and Estelle do this to George at the end, but their attempts only make him feel more uncomfortable, especially when Frank announces his intent on banging Estelle.
