Recap / Seinfeld S3 E19 "The Limo"

Go To

Jerry and George commandeer a limousine headed for a neo-Nazi rally.

This episode demonstrates the following examples:

  • Artistic License – Geography: When Jerry claims to be from Dublin and poorly fakes an accent while saying "And the peat, ah the peat", Tim points out that he sounds Scottish, to which Jerry claimed that he was on the border between Scotland and Ireland, despite them not sharing a land border.
  • Cassandra Truth: The last scene has George desperately pleading he's not Donald O'Brien, which no one believes because he had claimed to be him the whole episode when he really just took the guy's limo not knowing who he was.
  • Contrived Coincidence: George has the idea to impersonate Donald O'Brien after Jerry points him a limo chauffeur carrying an "O'Brien" sign and remembers he had seen an O'Brien in Chicago complaining to airport staff about having to reach Madison Square Garden, because O'Brien's flight is overbooked and would not arrive to New York soon. Making matters even worse, the Bulls happened to be playing the Knicks that night leading them to think they were just going to see the game, not to a Neo-Nazi rally.
  • Confronting Your Imposter: The real Donald O'Brien calls the limo to let them know of his delay. Tim and Eva discover they're dealing with impersonators, to whom they point a gun.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: According to a live reporter on the scene:
Jodi Baskerville: Even David Duke has denounced him [O'Brien] as a dangerous extremist.
  • Get Out!: When Tim and Eva discover that "O'Brien" and his friends are actually impersonators, they demand an explanation and point a gun to Jerry, George, Kramer and Elaine (the first two and the latter reacting in awkward silence), who are forced to leave the limo while irate protestors - one of them Don - begin rocking it.
  • Greedy Jew:
George: (Reading from O'Brien's faxed speech, surprised and bemused) And the Jews steal our money through their Zionist Occupied Government and use the black man to bring drugs to our oppressed white minority communities.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: Before the major Aryan Union convention at the Paramount Theater, adjacent to the Madison Square Garden, Donald O'Brien had never been seen before, not even in pictures - only known through his newsletter and book, The Big Game. After that night's convention he continued not to be seen by either the convention participants, the protesters or the media.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack:
    • By the Paramount Theater, crowd control officers have lined up several barricades to keep away hordes of protesters.
    • When Jerry and George finally pick up Kramer and Elaine, all four are forced to retreat to the limo by an angry mob, which continues to chase them until it stops and gets rocked.
  • Implausible Deniability: From the perspective of the protesters and the media, George Costanza (who is not O'Brien) denying he's O'Brien.
George: (On live TV.) I am not O'Brien! I am not O'Brien! Jerry! Jerry!
  • Irony: Jerry, who's Jewish, accidentally bluffing that he's an associate of an anti-Semitic White Supremacist.
    • Similarly, George, who seems to be at least half Jewish, is mistaken for the anti-Semitic White Supremacist in question.
  • Living a Double Life: Once Kramer and Elaine run into her friend Dan and his friends, who tell them they're going to protest against Donald O'Brien, whose name Kramer recognizes from Jerry's instructions, he starts suspecting Jerry does this as "O'Brien". (Averted, of course.)
  • Masquerading As the Unseen: George maskerades as Donald O'Brien, while Jerry assumes the name "Dylan Murphy".
  • Mistaken for Special Guest: Arriving at the airport after a trip, Jerry and George see a chauffer waiting for an "O'Brien" and bluff their way into getting a free ride. Unfortunately, "Donald O'Brien" is actually the name of the leader of the Aryan Union (a White Supremacist group) who was scheduled to make his first in-person appearance that night.
  • Psycho Supporter: Eva had only read O'Brien's newsletter and book, not having a clue what he looks like, but is completely infatuated by him and declares that she would die for him when protesters start shooting at the limo.
  • Stealth Pun: Jerry's alias is "Dylan Murphy", naturally Murphy's law takes affect when they take the limo (it actually belonged to a neo-Nazi party).
  • Sustained Misunderstanding: Jerry and George start to assume that "O'Brien" is a sports columnist when Tim and Eva talk about "The Big Game" while they're headed to Madison Square Garden, with the truth not coming to light until they read O'Brien's faxed speech.
  • Those Wacky Nazis: Donald O'Brien, Tim, Eva and the Aryan Union.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Limousines and the Knicks playing the Bulls at the Madison Square Garden.
  • Would Be Rude to Say "Genocide":
Eva: (To George, in a sexy voice) What was that you said about the myth of The Holocaust?
