In "Buried Secrets", Donnie doesn't find out that the monster isn't April's mother until much later in the plot. Here he finds out almost immediately after Metalhead shows him his data on her, and he investigates further.
Instead of Mom-Thing, the monster is instead dubbed by Mikey as "Momster".
Jerkass Has a Point: When April accuses the others of lying, Miwa responds by slapping her before pointing out that they all miss their mothers and that this is a line they wouldn't cross unless they had good reason.
"Join Us" Drone: After absorbing her friends, the Momster chants this line as she tries to do the same to April.
As the gang ponder on what could be down in the basement, Mikey fearfully shouts out "Evil Clown!" "EVIL CLOWN!".
Spotting the Thread: While Mikey's suspicions about April's mother are based on gut-instinct, Miwa has actual reasons for being suspicious; the Kraang have been proven to not have any real moral standards in their tactics, so them not using April's mother as bait when they were after her registers as an Out-of-Character Alert.
Miwa: We know the Kraang have been after April for years. We've seen some of the schemes they've hatched to try and capture her. Kidnapping her father and brainwashing him, making her Uncle disappear when he started getting close to the truth, Irma. All of those involved people April cared about being put in danger to lure her out, but why would the Kraang bother with any of that when they already had her mother available to hold for ransom? It just doesn't make any sense.
True Companions: By the end of the chapter, Mikey points out that April is practically a part of their family. He's even convinced that this will be a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy and that she'll marry Donnie one day and actually be family.
