While the girls take a peak at an upcoming musical performance from the Three Lights, they learn that Seiya is having problems with an overly-demanding director. But Rei soon learns that the director is actually a nun who attends T.A. Girls' Academy and is living a double life.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Call-Back: Just like in the first episode, Usagi and Minako console each other about potentially failing their math tests and how they'll have to do the retakes together.
  • Commonality Connection: After Seiya rants on how Akane is constantly criticizing him and making him feel worthless, Usagi brings up that she knows what it's like to be picked on by people she's supposed to get along with.
  • Continuity Nod: Rei brings up how she and her friends did countless study sessions at her shrine to prepare for their entrance exams. Minako then points out that Rei did not have an entrance exam like the others.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Neither Usagi or Minako find Makoto suggesting that they'll have a year to coast before they'll held back as amusing.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Seiya succeeds in passing his make up test and was able to pull off a great performance with his musical.
  • Empathic Environment: A gust of dusty wind blows past Rei after her friends abandon her to watch the Three Lights perform.
  • Epic Fail:
    • How bad does your grade have to be for Usagi and Minako to be appalled by it? Ask Seiya.
    • Rei's attempt at what she believes is flirting leads to the Three Lights slowly backing away from her. She's then promptly ditched by all of her friends and left standing in the dust.
  • Flashback: While taking a math test, Seiya recalls how his musical director decided to bully him for not living up to her expectations.
  • Foreshadowing: The last scene shows Seiya imagining his special person via silhouette that he and his friends are after. It then cuts to Sailor Moon, the leader and princess of the Solar System Guardians.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: In Minako's Imagine Spot of the musical lifestyle, her first dress pays homage to Artemis.
  • The Gadfly:
    • The prospect of trolling Rei over her lack of entrance exams and ruining her vibe is too good for Minako to pass up despite Rei trying to get the Three Lights to join their study group.
    • Ami especially gets in on this after Usagi, Minako, and Makoto leave Rei standing in the dust so they can see the Three Lights practice for their musical.
Ami: Rei, would you like to borrow my reference books?
      Rei: Why should I have-
Ami: I guess I'll go see it too.
Rei: A STUDY GROUP ALL BY MYSELF?!
  • Go Through Me: After Star Fighter insists on killing Sailor Director regardless of what the Inner Guardians have to say, Sailor Mars threatens to kill her on the spot with Mars Flame Sniper if she tries to hurt the Phage.
  • Hammerspace: Nezu carries a large bag which stores the telephone needed to communicate with headquarters.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Rei tells Usagi to stop worrying about Seiya because she has to study, ignoring that she herself is worrying about Usagi and not studying.
  • I Have This Friend: Played for Laughs. After Usagi brings up how she has a hard time getting along with someone who nitpicks her flaws, Rei mentions how she knows a girl who's a huuuuge crybaby who's quite unbearable.
Usagi: Rei-chan, just who are you talking about?
    Rei: Oh, don't you know?
  • Jerkass to One: The director lady singles out Seiya as the one Light member who sucks and needs the most improvement.
  • Living a Double Life: In the daytime, Akane Gushiken is a dictator of a director who makes the lives of her performers a living nightmare in order to squeeze the best performances out of them. But in other days, she becomes Sister Angela who regular attends Rei's Catholic school as a humble nun.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Rei does the classic "ojou" laugh when she appears before everyone. Even getting curly hair to fit her image.
  • Oh, Crap!: Usagi and Minako are horrified to hear Ami warn them that they can risk being held back if they don't take their tests more seriously.
  • Prima Donna Director: Akane Gushiken, the director of the Three Light's musical is a cold-hearted dictator who expects absolute perfection from her performers and makes every opportunity to criticize Seiya's abilities without going into specifics with how he can improve himself.
  • Transformation Sequence: Seiya turns themself into Sailor Star Fighter by calling out "Fighter Star Power, Make Up!"
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Seiya says this after the director declares that she's going to be extra mean to him so he can give a better performance.
