As Chibi-usa and Hotaru grow closer as friends, the two face adversity from the latter's other self who brings great suffering to anyone around her. Additionally, Haruka fears that the other self that resides in the Tomoe girl may be associated with the Death Busters.


Tropes in this episode include:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Hotaru was singled out by her classmates after she supposedly hurt a boy but had no memory of doing so.
  • Battle Aura: Hotaru's body is covered in a red aura when her other self awakens.
  • Breaking the Fellowship: The gothic girl breaks her friendship with Chibs out of fear that she too will get hurt the longer she stays with her.
  • Creepy Doll: The Monster of the Week resembles a giant cute doll girl wearing a children's school uniform.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: After getting worked from her imaginary roleplay alongside You Kazama's telenovela, Mimete decides to reap his Pure Heart out of vengeance.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Chibi Moon doesn't take too kindly to Uranus wanting her to stay away from the fight because she's a kid.
  • Flashback Nightmare: While recovering in the hospital, Hotaru has nightmares of all the misfortune she brought onto herself because of her actions which she had no control over. From losing her beloved goldfish to being isolated by her classmates.
  • The Ghost: Ami mentions her doctor mother but she never once appears in the episode.
  • Give Her a Normal Life: The Time Guardian deduces that Chibi-usa's mother sent her to the past so she can make great friends and enjoy life as an ordinary girl.
  • Improbable Weapon User: U-Tamadachi uses an electric jump rope to plow through any enemy lines.
  • Internal Reveal: Setsuna reveals her civilian name to Chibi-usa.
  • It's All My Fault: After Hotaru passes out on the street and required medical attention from Ami's doctor mother, Chibi-usa blames herself as it was because of her that her new friend ran out of the house to find her.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends:
    • All her life, Hotaru longed to have friends but always loses them because of her mysterious other self.
    • The Big Friendly Daimon U-Tamadachi longs to make friends with anyone unlucky enough to cross her.
  • In the Name of the Moon: Chibi Moon gives her first successful speech when confronting Mimete and U-Tamadachi.
  • Keeping the Enemy Close: Haruka offers a ride to Chibi-usa and Hotaru only so she can get as much information as she can from the gothic girl who may be associated with the enemy.
  • Kick the Dog: In the past, Kaori blamed a tiny Hotaru for killing her own goldfish. She then orders her to clean up the mess.
  • Mood Whiplash: After her heartwarming little reunion with Small Lady, Setsuna immediately has a serious discussion with her Outer friends about stopping the Messiah of Silence from being born.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: While driving at night, Haruka can feel the winds becoming restless which she translates as Death Buster activity in the area.
  • Non-Answer: Uranus refuses to elaborate to the Inner Guardians on why Chibi-usa should no longer be friends with Hotaru Tomoe.
  • Now, Let Me Carry You: Usagi points out that Hotaru willingly pushed herself to see Chibi-usa because she valued her as a friend. So now it's Chibi-usa's turn to stay by her side and support her during her recovery.
  • The Promise: Setsuna promises Small Lady that she can reunite with her whenever she wants.
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: Hotaru breaks her friendship with Chibi-usa to protect her while Sailor Uranus warns Moon to keep the two girls away from each other. Despite this, the Inner Girls encourage Chibs to continue her friendship with the delicate girl.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After her superior ditches her to fight the Sailor Guardians, the Big Friendly Daimon follows suit upset that she couldn't make any of them into friends.
  • Security Cling: In the past, Hotaru hugged her father while crying about her miserable and lonely situation.
  • Split Personality: Implied with Hotaru. Her other self is the Messiah of Silence who frequently speaks with Professor Tomoe. And she only appears after Hotaru passes out from a seizure.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Hotaru's other self is said to be responsible for creating accidents that hurt those around her while leaving her alone. And when she awakens, she unleashes an otherworldly power against anyone unlucky enough to be there.
