Recap / SM G4s Mario Bloopers The Other Universe

Go To

SMG4 and Mario finally learn where SMG1 and SMG2 came from, and how their world was destroyed by Zero.

  • Actor Allusion: Mario says "Lukey, imma your papa." In real life, guess what SMG4's name is.
  • Alternate Universe: SMG4 and Mario see the Universe that SMG1 and SMG2 came from, the ToyToy Kingdom and it has many marked similarities to the Mushroom Kingdom.
    • The world is set in a game running on a computer.
    • The main character of said game serves as the Avatar and is also implied to have been warped from the "canon" version of said character
    • The world is populated by characters from other games (Nintendo games for Mushroom Kingdom, Newgrounds games for ToyToy Kingdom).
    • The world consists of two dimensions (the Internet Graveyard to the Mushroom Kingdom and the Oldgrounds Mall to ToyToy Kingdom).
  • Anachronism Stew: Despite taking place before SMG4's Super Mario 64 Bloopers which would place events on or before 2011, there are some anachronisms in the flashback.
  • Artistic License – Engineering: The Guardian Pods traveling to different universes is depicted as being unplugged by a human from real life. In present day, Zero remotely transfers his Guardian Pod from ToyToy Kingdom to the universe that he's in. Who knows what that looks like in real life?
  • Call-Back: Once again, Mario successfully get the Guardian Pod's computer to work by crawling around naked on it.
  • Cargo Ship: Pico takes his Uzi out for a romantic dinner.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Spudnick outright decays on screen as Zero saps out his life force, and unlike Francis, the guy didn’t even deserve it.
  • Cryptic Background Reference: After Zero kills Spudnik SMG2 angrily states that "Killing us won't fix what happened to you!" Implying that SMG1 and 2 are well aware of Zero's full origin that was breifly hinted at in the 10 year special.
  • Do Wrong, Right: Tankman, serving as the police, replaces the kidnapper's water pistol with a real gun, telling him to do it right.
  • Mood Whiplash: The flashback goes from an alternate universe version of typical Blooper hijinks to an apocalyptic scenario as soon as Zero arrives.
  • Mythology Gag: Baby Boyfriend calls Tankman "dada", possibly referencing how Tankman is the face of Newgrounds.
  • Once More, with Clarity: The memory of Zero's first defeat from the 10th Anniversary Special is revisited here, this time with added buildup showing how he destroyed the old universe.
  • Sealed Evil In A Sixpack: The Zero seen in the 10th anniversary special was merely just the arm of the true Zero, having severed it off trying to escape the first guardian pod.
  • Shout-Out: The beginning of the flashback plays out like Day of the Tentacle.
  • Spoof Aesop: After the entire flashback, Mario realized that he should keep himself safe from the likes of Zero, right? Nope. All he "learned" was that he's SMG4's "papa".
  • The Reveal: The fate of SMG1 and SMG2's universe is detailed, revealing several other things in the process.
    • The Newgrounds characters that now reside under Mt. Brazil originally came from the ToyToy kingdom and were evacuated before the universe died.
    • SMG1 and SMG2 knew Zero before he came to their universe and Zero is killing avatars because of something that happened to him but is now beyond reason.
    • It is finally confirmed that the whole SMG4 verse is based on an emulated copy of Super Mario 64.
    • It also confirms that Zero is indeed SMG0.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: SMG4 opening the Guardian Pod allowed Zero to sneak in. Once Mario and SMG4 left, Zero was free to contact his own Guardian Pod, which contained the rest of his body.
  • Wham Line: "INTERDIMENSIONAL TRAVEL COMMENCING", shown on Zero's Guardian Pod right before it blasts off for SMG4's universe.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: The fate of the ToyToy Kingdom, heavily implied to take place in 2011, is shown through computer induced flashback.
