Recap / SMG4 - There's Something Up With Meggy...

Go To

Meggy's been acting really weird... and Mario + Luigi are caught in the middle of it!

Contains Examples of:

  • Aesop Amnesia: Meggy says she will train Mario, Luigi, and Tari for Splatfest harder than ever before, apparently forgetting how hard she was on them in "Meggy's Bootcamp".
  • Call-Back:
    • Mario claims that the source of Meggy's crazyness is because she ate a Poison Mushroom, just like he did a very long time ago.
    • The picture of Desti that was used at her funeral is now being kept at Meggy's apartment.
    • Meggy has a giant podium labeled "Splatfest Champion" without the trophy on it, as a reference to Meggy's admission in "Meggy's Bootcamp" that she hasn't won a single Splatfest. Her Drill Sergeant Nasty side also seems to have come back with a vengeance.
  • Five Stages of Grief: This episode is basically about Meggy going through this.
  • "Here's Johnny!" Homage: When Meggy breaks through the castle door.
    Meggy: Heeeere's Woomy!
  • Innocently Insensitive: Luigi wondering if Meggy should be training for Splatfest instead of building a treehouse causes the already Trigger-Happy Meggy to snap like a twig.
  • Posthumous Character: Desti.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Meggy after Mario accidentally destroys her treehouse.
  • Sequel Hook: Meggy promising to honor Desti's Last Request by training for Splatfest possibly hints at SMG4's fourth arc—or a movie.
  • Series Continuity Error: Desti didn't die because she sacrificed herself. She was ambushed in a sneak attack.
  • This Is Gonna Suck:
    • After Mario destroys Meggy's treehouse and she gets angry, Mario is blissfully unaware of what he did, but Luigi naturally dreads what's to come. Meggy's subsequent Roaring Rampage of Revenge proves Luigi's bad premonitions correct.
Luigi: Uhh Mario, I think we're in trouble.
    • Mario, Luigi, and Tari don't exactly look thrilled about training with Meggy for Splatfest. Given how she can be, it's not hard to see why.
  • Title Drop: Luigi says there's something wrong with Meggy. He says "wrong" instead of "up", but it's the same idea.
  • Truth in Television: Meggy's ways of coping are indeed bizarre, but not unusual in real life. Strange behavior is a real thing when it comes to learning to accept death.
