Mario & Bob are catching fish, but they're Boopkins' friends 🙁 so Meggy tries to stop them
Bob takes Mario, Meggy, and Boopkins fishing, but his and Mario's inhumane methods of catching fish inspire the other two to take a stand and stop them before they wipe out the entire fish population with greedy overfishing.
- Artistic License – Marine Biology: The sea creatures that Mario and Bob fish up and that Boopkins summons are a diverse mix of fresh, salt, and brackish water dwelling sea creatures, and thus wouldn't and couldn't be found in the same small lake.
- Bait-and-Switch Compassion: Marlin appears midway through the fishing montage and asks Mario to help him find his son, who Mario happens to secretly be cooking. Smash Cut to Marlin and Nemo reunited and hugging... right before the camera zooms out to show that they're inside Mario's oven.
- Call-Back: Meggy mentions how she has a connection to marine life, referencing how she used to be an Inkling.
- Canon Discontinuity: Meggy claims it's immoral for Bob and Mario to be cooking and eating fish, neglecting to mention how she did the same thing in "Cooking With Mario And Bowser World Tour".
- Everyone Has Standards: Mario, at one point, considers stopping the excessive fishing before they wipe the entire species. Unfortunately, Bob won't back down.
- Fishing Episode: The entire premise is Mario and Bob catching all the fish in the lake.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Boopkins calls his aquatic friends, one of the "fish" amongst the crowd is Steve wearing a snorkelling mask.
- Green Aesop: If you fish, either take only what you need or catch and release. Otherwise, you risk putting the ecosystem in danger.
- Major Injury Underreaction:
- Bob's only reaction to Meggy harpooning him in the face is a muted "Ow".
- When Meggy catches Mario trying to throw a toaster into the ocean at the end, she sends a harpoon through his head. All he does in response is say "Well that wasn't very nice".
- Mutagenic Food: Mario and Bob eat so much bass that they both turn into bass.
- New Powers as the Plot Demands: Boopkins summoning other fish a la Aqua Man was something he originally hasn't done.
- Shout-Out: There are several references to Finding Nemo, from Boopkins telling Mario "fish are friends, not food" to Marlin and Nemo's cameo. You could argue that Bob telling Mario to "just keep swimming" is also this.
- Super Not-Drowning Skills: When comforting Boopkins, Meggy sits at the bottom of the lake with no apparent breathing issue. She even talks while down there! Though Boopkins may have given her the power to breathe underwater.
