• Ambiguous Situation: As Edward implies, it's not known how long the SCP Foundation has been on Sodor.
• Ascended Extra: Barry and Iris have made small cameos here and there, but this is the first time we hear them speak.
• Call-Back: A lot:
  • Edward starts by re-telling them about how Percy joined the railway back in '34.
  • The stories Edward will be talking about tie in to previous episodes:
    • a mysterious cave;
    • lucky fortune;
    • a misunderstood creature;
    • a scoundrel;
    • and an ancient machine.
• Framing Device: The miniseries kicks off with Edward wanting to tell Bruce, Barry, Iris, and Salty about things that "might have" happened on Sodor while they're waiting for the Brendam Docks turntable to be fixed.
• I Hate Past Me: Bruce doesn't really enjoy hearing how much of a prat he used to be. Iris cheekily asks "what do you mean 'used to be'?"
