The parents try to find a solution to PRIDE's problem, and the kids grapple with a new discovery that yields more questions than answers.
  • Captain Obvious: Dale and and Stacey, after a long day of looking for their missing dinosaur, walk in the front door of their house to see their daughters standing in front of it, one petting it.
Dale: Well... I guess we found the dinosaur?
  • Cliffhanger: At the end of the episode, Alex is kidnapped by an unknown party and taken in a black SUV.
  • Dirty Cop: Detective Flores once helped cover Amy's death as a suicide. After Victor and Robert are found trying to kidnap Murray, they meet with him to avoid trouble with the law. He's also the one handling Destiny's case.
  • Disposable Sex Worker: Once it's clear Victor has lost (or rather, never had) his kidnap victim, Leslie's second proposal to be used as a sacrifice is a prostitute.
  • Disposable Vagrant: Leslie's first proposal to be used as a sacrifice after Victor fails to secure a victim is a homeless person. Later, Victor and Robert try to kidnap a homeless man named Murray but he resists and the police pass by. Both this and Disposable Sex Worker are lampshaded by Geoffrey, who remarks that she chooses people who "don't matter."
  • Never Suicide: Amy is revealed to have died by drug overdose. After reading her diary and finding out more about her parents' activities, Nico increasingly suspects that Amy didn't kill herself.
  • Power Nullifier: Karolina's bracelet nullifies her light-emitting abilities.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Chase to his would-be-rapist-teammates.
Rapist: Look man, State is almost here. Just say you're sorry and we all move on.
Chase: Beat You gonna say sorry to her?
The other asshole who was going to rape an unconscious girl: No. I got a broken rib because of that bitch.
Chase: Well, good thing you've got 23 more.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Chase quits the lacrosse team after Brandon and Lucas confront him about beating them and refuse to acknowledge they tried to rape Karolina.
    • The Yorkeses considered leaving and staying at the Hernandezes' vacation home. However, Tina Minoru visited and acknowledged their intentions, which also implies the Hernandezes intended to do the same.
  • Sewer Gator: Discussed, Stacey considers leaving their deinonychus behind and letting it become an urban legend, like alligators in New York sewers.
  • Shout-Out: Apparently, Alex's Prius has a 'My Other Ride is a TARDIS' license plate frame.
  • Tattooed Crook: Kincaid, the mercenary/detective, hired by Tina to investigate the Yorkeses.
  • Title Drop: "Runaways" refers to the people Leslie Dean selects for the annual Human Sacrifice.
  • The Reveal: PRIDE has been preying on runaways taken in by the Church of Gibborim and selected by Leslie for 15 years.
  • Slut-Shaming: Eiffel accuses Karolina of drunkenly hooking up with Brandon and Lucas during the party; this alleged promiscuity supposedly led to Chase's falling-out with them.
Karolina: No... that... that never happened.
Eiffel: Yeah, it did, but you wouldn't remember that, because you're a lightweight drunk and a lacrosse. Ruining. Slut.
  • So Proud of You: Muted. Chase is working on his artificial hand thingy when his dad drives in. Chase immediately starts cleaning up, desperately trying to get out of there, only for Victor to look at his work, pull it apart a bit, and slam it to the ground. Chase rages briefly, then settles into terror as Victor tells him to sit.
    Victor: Now. Tell me.
    Chase: Tell you what?
Victor: That thing is... work of a child. You got ahead of yourself. Don't worry about the execution. Not, not yet. Just tell me your idea. Everything. What it does. How it feels. How it makes you feel. Right now it is perfect in your mind, and that is where you need to live while we build this thing. Take me there. What is this thing called?
    Chase: ... Fistigons.
