Go To

The thirteenth episode of the sixth season of Rugrats (1991).

Pedal Pusher

Chuckie gets a new toy car, and other kids at the park befriend him just to play with it.

Music

The babies try to find out what Dil thinks of music.

"Pedal Pusher" provides examples of:

  • Alliterative Title: Pedal Pusher.
  • Continuity Nod: When talking to Chas about Chuckie's new car, Didi tells Chas that Dr. Lipschitz told her that the best toys are ones that simulate imagination, like the big box Tommy likes to play in.
  • Cool Car: Chuckie's toy car.
  • False Friend: The kids who take advantage of Chuckie's toy car to get free rides then, when it gets stuck in the mud, abandon Chuckie as soon as they see another kid on a shiny scooter.
  • The Load: Tommy, Phil, and Lil are unable to play with Dil, since he doesn't know how to push someone on the swings or get onto a seesaw.
  • Parental Obliviousness: When Tommy, Phil, and Lil realize how much they miss Chuckie, they decide to play with Dil. Both Didi and Chas are so immersed with Dr. Lipschitz' work they don't notice that Dil is being led into the park.
  • Sibling Seniority Squabble: When the babies try to decide which of them will be the first to ride in Chuckie's car, Lil says that she should go first, since she's the oldest. When Phil tells her she's not, Lil tells him that she was born first, since Betty said so.
  • True Companions: Tommy, Phil, and Lil return to Chuckie and push his car out of the mud.

"Music" provides examples of:

  • Continuity Cavalcade: Among the troubles Chuckie packs up in his kit bag are Aunt Miriam, Mr. Friend, his potty, and a dust bunny.
  • Musical Episode: The first of its kind. It contains the following songs:
    • "Trike That Is Not for You" (sung by Phil and Lil to the tune of "A Bicycle Built For Two")
    • "Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag" (sung by Chuckie)
    • "Toyland" from Babes in Toyland (sung by Angelica)
    • "You Make Me Love You" (sung by Tommy to Dil)
    • "Beautiful Dreamer" (sung by Didi as a lullaby for Dil)
  • Toilet Humor: After Tommy's number, Dil wets his diaper.
