Recap / Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles S 1 E 17 Shadowof Evil

Go To

As the Turtles try to lure Baron Draxum out, Splinter tries to get to the bottom of odd goings-on at April's new job

Tropes:

  • Badass Normal: Granted Master Splinter is a mutant, but he lacked mystic weapons/advanced tech, not to mention having a bad back. He was able to beat all four turtles with ease.
  • Bait-and-Switch: It seems like the Foot Lieutenant is about to reveal something sinister under a tarp but it was really just a new line of shoes.
  • Funny Background Event: While Splinter is explaining the consequences of the Kuroi Yore's completion, we see a mutated crow thrashing Donnie around before the rest of the turtles crash the tank into it.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": The reveal that Randall is Lou Jitsu sent both Foot Brute and Foot Lieutenant squeeing.
  • Mythology Gag: At the beginning of the episode, the Turtles come upon Draxum capturing a rhino, a warthog, and two humans that resemble Steranko and Zeck, the humans that were mutated into Rocksteady and Bebop in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012).
  • "Oh, Crap!" Fakeout: Splinter experiences the first one (thinking the Foot Clan is reduced to shoe salesmen) but gets the real Oh, Crap! reaction when he learns they're on the hunt for the Shredder's armor.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Splinter finally gets off his ass and decides to kick ass upon learning about the Foot Clan's rise and that his sons have been fighting them behind his back.
  • Overly Long Gag: At one point, the Foot Lieutenant pulls the tarp off a dolly which takes a long time to completely come off. Not to mention it keeps cutting between the tarp coming off and Splinter's anxious face.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Splinter shows up to the Foot Shack in a T-shirt and jeans, hoping to pass as a human. April sees through it instantly but her coworkers buy it along with the turtles.
  • The Reveal: The turtles, learning Lou Jitsu and Splinter are one and the same, and that Shredder exists in this continuity.
  • Wham Episode: We now know the Foot clan is scouring New York for pieces of a mystic armor, and that when they have them all, their master, Shredder, shall be resurrected.
  • Written Sound Effect: When the Foot Clan's van drives off, the word "VROOM" comes out from behind it.
