* NWordPrivileges: Discussed. Rick remarks that the telescope he got from Mr. Needful would have made him literally mentally retarded. Morty tells him that the word is inherently derisive, as it's objected to by "powerful groups who think that they're doing the right thing." Rick's response? "Well, that's retarded."

** Rick describes the store's products as "[[Series/TheTwilightZone Twilight Zone]], Creator/RayBradbury, [[Series/Fridaythe13thTheSeries Friday the 13th: The Series]] voodoo crap magic.''

* AffablyEvil: Summer is okay with working for Mr. Needful, since she figures that every business hiring teenagers is evil in some way, and at least ''he'' is polite about it.
* AndKnowingIsHalfTheBattle: Spoofed. At the end of the episode, Summer and Rick wonder what the aesop might have been.

* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Summer wants to support Mr. Needful and his business and compete against Rick because he's been a kind boss to her. Though this changes when she gets "Zuckerberged" by him later on.

* HeelRealization: Jerry realizes how awful he's being just because he doesn't want to admit he's wrong when he sees King Floppy Nips willing to throw Scroopy Noopers, his son, into high security prison "Plutonamo Bay" just to keep the lid on Pluto's destruction.

* LiteraryAllusionTitle: The episode's title is a reference to Ray Bradbury's novel ''Literature/SomethingWickedThisWayComes'', about a mysterious man who runs a traveling carnival and grants wishes, but they come at a price. [[note]]In turn this title [[LiteraryAllusionTitle references a famous line]] from Macbeth, "by the pricking of my thumb, something wicked this way comes", said by one of the witches that provide Macbeth the prophecy about his rise and fall.[[/note]]

* OverlyPrepreparedGag: Retaliation, that is. At the end of the episode, Rick and Summer work out hard for weeks or months in order to give the Devil a good beating. Apparently, it was WorthIt.

** In it's final scene, the butter-passing robot utters a flat, quick "Butter," a reference to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiU_YTNW5ns the Kraft Parkay Butter commercials]].

* SufficientlyAnalyzedMagic: Despite the Devil's powers being presumably supernatural in nature, Rick is able to use science to analyze and neutralize his cursed items (or at least removing the negative effects).

* ThrowTheDogABone: Mr. Goldenfold has an MyGodWhatHaveIDone breakdown when he discovers that the aftershave he bought from Mr. Needful makes women attracted to him but also makes him impotent. When he's collapsed to his knees and wailing about how he deserves this terrible fate, Rick injects Goldenfold with a serum that cures his impotence, who then gleefully runs off with his three new lady-friends.

* WasJustLeaving: When Rick accompanies Summer to the Devil's shop, Summer announces that Rick was "just leaving" in hope he would get the hint and leave. But Rick decides to stick around.

* AdHominem: At Pluto when Morty challenges Jerry's viewpoint in front of a crowd of Plutonians, the latter ridicules Morty by telling a story of how silly he acted at the age of five.

* IgnoredEpiphany: After Rick injects Goldenfold with an impotence cure, the latter runs off with his harem screaming "I haven't learned a thing!"

* GreenEyedMonster: He denies it, but Rick is clearly jealous when Summer prefers hanging out with and looking up to Mr.Needful instead of him, to the point of going out of his way to destroy Mr. Needful's business.

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: ''Rick and Morty'' is already an adult show so there is not really much of a radar to dodge, but the penultimate scene in the episode stands out. One of the mean-spirited people that Rick and Summer beat up holds a sign that says "God Hates Fags". This was uncensored... on the Creator/AdultSwim broadcast. Seriously, how in the high hell did they get away with ''that'' at a TV-14 rating? Not even MA-rated shows on the same block such as ''WesternAnimation/TheBoondocks'' could get away with that.

** And then Rick nulls the magic of the cologne...along with all the artifacts in Mr. Needful's shop so anyone buying them can get away without paying any price. Needless t say, Mr. Needful rightfully declares him to be ''worse'' than any devil.
