Recap / Revolution Z Season 1 Episode 6

Go To

Cekov starts the day in a bad mood as he tries to drill the teachers for the regional inspector's visit. Savov gets irritated with Dimitrova who can't take the hint that their one-night stand means nothing. Tino meets Ani on the roof playing an old guitar. Meanwhile, Bobby arranges the band's first gig at the nearby mall. Savov is still pestered by Mira who tries to twist his arm by telling Cekov that they had sex. Later he finds a distressed Dimitrova lament her great-grandmother's death and comforts her, making Marinova jealous. She makes a move on him but he brushes her off.

The band gathers round to listen to Tino's new song, which is not-so-secretly a message to Ani. He later buys her a cool new guitar she's had her eye on for a while, and leaves it at the garage with a note, causing Bobby's jealousy. Filip's father reminds him of his upcoming aikido demonstration, so he now has to have a crash course so he doesn't embarrass himself. Bobby, meanwhile, is bragging about his supposed sex life with Ani, only for Ghetto to expose that she's still a virgin. He later has some fun with Ani "even without having sex", but she finds a condom in his pocket and gets mad. Then he gets jealous over Ani's new guitar and her "secret admirer". Ani and Tino discuss possible names for the band and she accidentally coins it by reading a crossed-over "REVOLUTION" as "REVOLUTION Z". Her dad gives her trouble over money and accuses her of stealing to buy the guitar. Then some diva girls make fun of her virginity. At Filip's Aikido demonstration, he gets trounced, to his father's disgrace, and it becomes clear he lied about having trained. That means he;s grounded and later has to get busted out of the house for the gig.

At the school, Inspector Stoyanov's visit starts off swimmingly and Cekov is beaming with fake pride. It all gets ruined when Marinova and Dimitrova break out in a fight right in front of him. Cekov connects the dots and gives Savov a very stern talking-to, after which Savov is pissed at both women. Ani is finally ready to have sex with Bobby, but before the concert, one of the gossip girls lets slip that Bobby sent them to make her upset and pressure her into it. That pisses Ani off immensely and she ends up screaming at Bobby on stage and ruining the gig. Ani later meets Tino to apologize and to thank him for the guitar, and the two finally kiss.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Batman Gambit: The four need to skip school to play at the gig, so they need to have their absences excused. Cekov meets Bobby and Tino and, not wanting a riot, wants them to not be present, but won't excuse the absence of the other two.
Cekov refuses, so they threaten him that they'll play at the school right when the inspector comes to visit. Cekov, of course, doesn't want a riot.
Bobby: Mr. Cekov, may we ask you something?
Cekov: No, you may not- Huh! Just the guys I need! Tomorrow I want the two of you out of here!
Bobby: We were wondering if- Huh!
Cekov: "Huh" what? No "Huh", tomorrow an inspector is coming from the Ministry, so the two of you are free to go.
Bobby: No written absences?
Cekov: I'll make an exception, just for romorrow! Just for tomorrow, no absences on the books!
Tino: Alright then, could you also free Filip and Ani from Class 9A?
Cekov: Who? No, I can't! Are you on the market to bargain like that?
Tino: Well if they can't be freed, we'll also be going to school, so what if an inspector is coming?
Bobby: Yeah, we'll bring some amps, stick some wires...
Cekov: Stick what? Wires? I'll stick you a... You think you're smart, punks?
Bobby: No, we'll just play in front of the inspector.
Cekov: Very funny. Alright, tomorrow the four of you are not needed here.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Tino and Ani at the end, before he protests that Bobby is his friend and she leaves.
  • Cat Fight: Dimitrova and Marinova.
    • Foreshadowed earlier when neither of them feels like working during the day:
Bobby and Tino: Don't you have classes?
Ani and Fipo: Dimitrova wasn't in the mood and let us go.
Bobby and Tino: Hm, and Marinova let us go.
  • Character Filibuster: Dimitrova burts into a melodramatic one during her class, citing the myth of Hera (her) getting her revenge on the mortal seductress Io (Marinova) for stealing her divine husband Zeus (Savov).
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Ani overhears two girls gossip that Bobby will dump her if she doesn't have sex with him soon. They later reveal that Bobby set them up, just to rub salt in the wound.
Petya: I'm just pitying the Bobster. Curious how long he'll last with this dry spell.
Ani: No need to pity the Bobster, cause we love each other. And you know what's the saddest part? That only gossip makes you happy.
Petya: You want some 100% truth? Your Bobby is so desperate that he paid me to say all these things in front of you.
  • Great Escape: Tino and Bobby have to bust Filip out of his room, using a rope to get him to climb out of his room.
    • We Need a Distraction: Bobby serves to distract The Colonel by making up excuses for Filip's weak Aikido performance.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Sexually Active Today?: Bobby brags about having slept with Ani, when he really hasn't.
  • "I Am Becoming" Song: Tino's new project is a song with the refrain "I won't lose you again". It's obviously about him and Ani, as made clear by the Meaningful Looks between the two.
  • It's All Junk: Tino sells the vinyl plates left from his Disappeared Dad to buy a guitar for Ani.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: Savov makes Mira believe he has a cat, just to catch her lying.
Savov: I gotta go home and feed the cat.
Mira: Your cat saw some things last night.
Savov: ... I don't have a cat. Now get lost and be careful how you behave from now on.
  • The Inspector Is Coming: Said verbatim by Cekov. The trope is played in full, with Cekov demanding that professionalism be displayed, tests with supplied answers handed to the kids, and issues swept under the rug. He then accompanies the inspector with a plastered servile smile on his face, chuckling nervously all the time.
  • No Guy Wants to Be Chased: Savov gets irritated with both Dimitrova and Marinova.
  • Sex Equals Love: Dimitrova thinks so and gives a pile of "romantic" gifts to Savov, including decorating his workplace with scented candles.
  • Take That!: Filip of all people after Bobby's scheme with Ani backfires:
Bobby: I was super desperate and paid Petya to feed her some bullshit, that we haven't had sex yet... and that stupid chalga bimbo played me.
    Filip: Well you played yourself.
  • What the Fu Are You Doing?: Filip asks Tino to practice some very scripted Aikido techniques ("No, no, you hit me just like that and then I push you like this and you fall") and gets his ass handed to him even when Tino isn't trying.
Filip: Cool, now I just have to do the same at the demonstration.
Tino: Yep, just don't get cocky.
