Recap / Resident Alien S 2 E 3 Girls Night

Go To

A girls' night out is called while Kate's scientist cousin is in town. Harry searches for the final piece to his radio, which he realizes is in her lab.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: The episode touches upon many hardships that women face (beauty standards, wage gap, unfair treatment, sexual harrassment, being ignored). Asta summarizes it for Harry near the end of the episode.
Asta: You know, next time a woman tries to tell you something, sit down, shut up, and listen. And if you feel the need to say anything, all it needs to be is, "Yes, ma'am."
  • Chekhov's Skill: D'Arcy's work as search and rescue personnel gives her helicopter-piloting skills, which she uses to circumvent the town law against posting flyers.
  • Embarrassing Slide: A photo of Ben and Kate's bedroom exploits ends up in the mix of Patience advertisement pictures intended for Ben's commercial.
  • Fake Memories: Harry implants fake memories in Sheriff Mike and Deputy Liv to make them forget about him being an alien and stop pursuing the case. He also makes Carlyn believe she drove home and napped rather than been in stasis while her body was copied by an alien.
  • Girl's Night Out Episode: Kayla calls a GN59, which is an alcohol-fueled girls' night that starts at The 59 and continues to a secluded spot in the woods.
  • Jar Potty: Judy relieves herself in a potted plant.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Harry sends Carlyn's boss flying across the room multiple times for sexually harrassing her.
  • Painful Body Waxing: Sahar waxes Max's back. He screams, loudly.
  • Perp Sweating: A flashlight is shone in Ben's face when the women confront him about the gender pay gap for town employees.
  • Product Placement: Ben consults an Alexa about synonyms for "mortality."
  • Shapeshifting: Harry assumes Carlyn's form in order to break into her lab and steal a diffuser.
  • Shout-Out: "Suicide Is Painless" (AKA the M*A*S*H theme) plays while D'Arcy is air dropping flyers over the town in a helicopter.
  • Team Power Walk: The girls walk (or roller skate) together in badass slo-mo to confront Ben about the pay gap.
  • Wall Crawl: Harry darts up the wall and around in his rafters to evade arrest.
  • When Things Spin, Science Happens: Harry seems to have repurposed a metal colander as a spinning satellite dish on his radio device.
