Caboose's Guide to Making Friends

Directed By: Miles Luna
Written By: Miles Luna

Vic: Alrighty amigos, it's time for another one of Vic's stories! Now, this time I was thinking of hitting you all with the origin of—
Caboose: Friendship.
Vic: Uh, whoa, dude, how did you get in here?
Caboose: I used the door.
Vic: You used the door? To get into this fourth wall-breaking episode prologue? You found a door to do that?
Caboose: Yes. It was next to the broken window by the men's restroom.
Vic: ...I am not even mad, color me impressed!
Caboose: Thank you.
Vic: So did you... did you have a, story or something dude?
Caboose: Ah yes, thank you for asking.
Vic: Well alright, blue amigo, the floor is yours.

Caboose reveals his knowledge of friendship.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: You will make friends, and you will lose friends. But no matter what, you can still make new ones and have a happy life.
  • Art Shift: This is done in very simplistic 2D animation.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Caboose somehow managed to enter a fourth wall-breaking prologue by finding a door to it. Vic is so impressed, he lets Caboose take over.
  • Call-Back: One doodle of Caboose has him reading a book that has the word "Memory" and a key underneath, referring to the Arc Words "Memory is Key" from Seasons 6 to 8.
  • Heroic BSoD: The death of Epsilon is followed by the borders of the short turning dark as Caboose depressingly falls on the floor.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: The last minute of the short references Epsilon's Heroic Sacrifice from the end of the previous season.
  • Mood Whiplash: The sketch is all about Caboose explaining what type of friend is the best type of friend (Epsilon)... before it has him somberly mentioning Epsilon's death.
  • Overly Long Gag: "And it's a sad, sad, sad, sad, saaaaaaaaaaad, sad, sad, sad part of life."
  • Smarter Than You Look: Caboose's knowledge of friendship is surprisingly sound.
  • Wham Line: The sketch is rather silly, until... "But, sometimes... you will lose a friend. Even... your best friend." As a doodle-version of Epsilon fizzles out of existence.
  • You Are Not Alone: Caboose's final lesson: you'll lose friends, but there will always be new ones for you to make.
