Go To

The sprites have to contend with their greatest danger yet...dealing Mike the TV's endless commercials and commentary. Things get dicey when the group end up stuck in a Dungeon Crawling game together.

This episode has examples of

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: As the Thief, all Bob gets for a weapon is a butterknife. Subverted when the party is attacked by a Giant Spider, as Bob uses his knife to cut its webline.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Mike the TV.
  • An Aesop: People often have hidden strengths, and we accomplish more together than apart.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Mike scares off Dot and Bob's evil doubles by showing them trash-TV on purpose.
"The Love Hospital! Your prescription for romance!"
"Don't touch that dial! You're tuned to the Commercial Channel! All commercials, all the time! An eternity of useless products to rot your skeevy little mind...forever."

  • Cloning Splits Attributes: The heroes are attacked by two animated suits of armor. Dot casts a spell that ends up splitting them into four suits that are half the size. Dot casts the spell several times over, then Bob and Enzo start stomping.

  • Giant Spider: One of these attacks the party on a spiral staircase. Bob manages to cut through its webline with his butterknife, making it fall to its death.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Mike the TV's set up like all he's going to do is get in the way since he can't even lift his character's sword. Near the end he repeatedly saves the other's bacon with his knowledge of trash TV; he defeats a shadow monster that easily defeated Bob, Dot and Enzo because of his knowledge of cheap monster movies, and right after that Mike defeats two of their evil twins by threatening them with annoying commercials and soap operas.
  • I Don't Like the Sound of That Place: The dungeon has locations with such cheery names as "the Hopeless River of Eternal Imprisonment" and "the Vicious Pit of Total Oblivion".
  • Lady of Black Magic: Dot reboots as the Wizard.
  • Oh, Crap!: Bob has played A Dungeon Deep several times before, always being the Warrior. When the protagonists reboot this time, he becomes the Thief. He's not happy that Mike becomes the Warrior.
  • Random Events Plot: The trip to the final level is a series of vignettes of the gang dealing with the various dangers within the dungeon.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: When a giant spider appears, a high-pitched scream is heard. It's Mike, of course.
  • Shout-Out: Mike gives a lot of these for everything from horse races to injury lawyer commercials to carnival barkers to cheesy soap operas and actions shows to celebrities like W. C. Fields and Groucho Marx.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: The protagonists become this, but with an Archer (Enzo) added to the mix. To Bob's dismay, he becomes the Thief while Mike becomes the Fighter.
