Tropes

  • Babies Ever After: According to Al, Phillip and Catherine's happy ending includes having six kids.
  • Daddy's Girl: Catherine has reservations about marrying Vincent, but she's more inclined to give it a chance when her father talks honestly about the family business being in dire shape and needing the new in-law's fortune to keep running.
  • Faking the Dead: Phillip was believed dead for years after being lost at sea. Catherine finds him on the Queen Mary.
  • Foreshadowing: Al waxes about true love and the One True Love he himself had lost, setting up the next episode's backstory.
  • Married at Sea: Catherine and Vincent are to be married at sea by the ship's captain.
  • Noodle Incident: Phillip being lost at sea and having to overcome major odds to find his way back to civilization. The captain of the Queen Mary is most intrigued by this tale.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Vincent's offer to Sam: stay away from the ex and her family, or end up dead.
Sam: Sounds like you're making me an offer I can't refuse.
Vincent: "An offer you can't refuse"... That's good. I like that.
  • One True Love: Al is certain that Phillip and Catherine are this for each other. He's invested in this situation, due to knowing what it's like to lose out on this sort of thing.
  • Race Against the Clock: Sam's predicament in the ship's lower deck is a two-fer. He can only avoid being swept out with the garbage for so long, all as the wedding ceremony proceeds. He barely manages to reach a chain and climb to safety, but he actually doesn't arrive in time to stop the wedding. It's Catherine herself who puts a stop to it before Sam can enter.
  • Really Gets Around: When Al first talks about true love, Sam concedes "the sheer volume of attempts" would've meant him finding it at some point.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: Weathers wanted the marriage to happen because the family business will benefit, but he ultimately supports Catherine's refusal to go through with it.
  • Shipper on Deck: Little sister Jennifer works overtime to get Phillip and Catherine back together.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: Catherine and Jennifer's father, Weathers, is in favor of the marriage, due to Vincent being able to provide the capital needed to keep the family business from going under.
  • Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace: By the time Sam manages to get to safety, the wedding ceremony has arrived at this point. With Sam lagging behind, Al most certainly objects, and he implores someone to say something. To his surprise, it's Catherine herself who speaks up.
