Bitterman finally arrives at the Factory after a gruesome travelling throughout the Strogg mines and arrives at the dreaded facility.

The levels that compose this unit are "Receiving Center", the Secret Level "Sudden Death" and "Processing Plant", and the main objective is to permanently shut down the Strogg Processing Plant.

Followed by the Reactor unit.

These levels show examples of:

  • Acid Pool: The levels have both lava pools and pits full of some kind of harmful transparent red fluid (most likely boiling blood or rendered human fat). Most of them have no way to escape, meaning falling in is certain death.
  • Adaptation Expansion: The 2023 remaster version of "Processing Plant" adds a new secret area behind one of the machines that need to be turned off, containing 5 Armor Shards.
  • Adapted Out: The unit is absent from the Playstation version.
  • Book Ends:
    • The unit starts and ends in the same level, "Receiving Center".
    • The level "Processing Plant" begins and ends in the same door.
  • Broken Bridge: The unit's exit is located at the end of a passageway separated from the entrance to the "Processing Plant" level via a laser pit. Two platforms located at each extreme are disabled until all of the objectives of the aforementioned unit are accomplished.
  • Conveyor Belt o' Doom: There are a couple in the "Processing Plant" level. Any prisoners riding them tend to end up in pieces.
  • Cosmetic Award: Completing the unit in the 2023 remastered edition nets the "Shut Down Processing Plant" achievement.
  • Death Trap:
    • The exit from the unit is located in a hallway preceded by a laser pit in "Receiving Center".
    • "Processing Plant" is Death Trap galore: you have grinding machines, liquid pits (of acid and lava varieties) colored with human flesh, a Conveyor Belt of Doom, laser walls guarding certain areas, elevators leading to crushers that can take unaware players out...
    • For some reason (as there are no enemies that can be taken care off this way in the area), "Sudden Death" features one in the form of a button sealing off the Quad Damage area and filling it with lava.
  • Eternal Engine: The unit takes place in a stroyentnote  production facility. Said stroyent is generated from human meat which is processed. The source of this meat? Captured prisoners.
  • Human Resources: The Strogg use humans as their food supply, as material for creating more Strogg, and as a means to run their machines. You first come up against this nasty aspect of the Strogg in a mission where you have to shut down an alien processing plant.
  • Monster Closet:
    • The "Receiving Center" level has two:
      • A pillar that hides a Parasite, and is triggered by unlocking the Railgun secret.
      • A hidden Machinegun Guard triggered after returning from the Processing Plant level which is triggered by successfully passing the laser pit.
    • "Processing Plant" has two:
      • Two Flyers hiding in the floor of the passage uniting the Strogg bio-assimilation tank room and the Bio processing control unit room.
      • A Gunner hiding in a secret chamber which is triggered after the Bio-compression chamber was deactivated.
  • New Weapon Target Range: The Railgun is introduced either in the Secret Level "Sudden Death" or the secret located in the lower level of the outer area. In both cases, a Parasite is summoned from a Monster Closet in order to give the player a target to test the hitscan weapon.
  • Oh, Crap!: The normally collected communications guy over the radio briefly loses his cool in the "Processing Plant" level.
"We have a confirmed visual on troops being... being disassembled."
  • One-Time Dungeon: You can enter only once to "Sudden Death", the second Secret Level. After that, there's no way you can go back there.
  • Permanently Missable Content: The Secret Level "Sudden Death" (where players may find the Railgun first, and another Quad Damage) can be entered only once, and there's a time limit of 30 seconds where the player must pick up as much as they can. Afterwards the player is returned to the Receiving Center and the level cannot be accessed anymore.
  • Room Full of Crazy: Mentally-broken marines constantly crying out for help or whispering "kill me now" can be found crawling all over the place. In some cases, the words "kill me" are written on the walls in blood. Those appear in the "Processing Plant" level.
  • Secret Level: "Sudden Death", 30 seconds of "grab everything you can".
  • Sickening Slaughterhouse: The "Processing Plant" is a human slaughterhouse, where prisoners are ground up, boiled alive, and otherwise killed in horrible ways to make spare parts for new Strogg and Stroylent. Fortunately, you get to shut the whole place down, but even the Mission Control guy who's normally very stoic seems stunned by this, as he says "We have confirmed a visual on troops being (huge pause) being "disassembled".
  • Sidetrack Bonus:
    • "Receiving Center":
      • Jumping on the cascade grants you access to the Secret Level, where the only thing you do is collect resources for 30 seconds.
      • In that same area, jumping to the water pool rewards you with an early Railgun (provided you didn't pick the one in the Secret Level).
      • After exiting the first Lava Chamber, the room with the Brains has a secret chamber with a Combat Armor and a bunch of items.
      • Near the exit to the Reactor unit there's a secret button, right in front of said exit, that opens a small chamber with a few goodies nearby.
    • "Processing Plant":
      • Right after taking the first elevator, shooting a certain light opens a chamber with an Adrenaline item.
      • Entering the first pool area and dropping to the small opening next to the entrance rewards you with a Quad Damage.
      • In the pit with the conveyor belt, stopping the belt and dropping onto one of its extremes rewards you with a Power Shield.
      • In the 2023 remastered edition, behind one of the machines you have to turn off, there's a secret vent that holds 4 Armor Shards.
