Recap / Prehistoric Park Reimagined S 2 E 1 Spirits Of The Ice Forest

Go To

The time has finally come to begin Phase 2 of Prehistoric Park, and the mission for this day involves rescuing the famed Jurassic Antarctican theropod cryolophosaurus. And at the same time that the park is undergoing business as usual and the rescue team is off in Jurassic Antarctica, not only are Theodore and Novum beginning discussions on whether or not to start preparing the park for opening to the public, but they have also sent a brand new staff member to the park to work with the rescue team...with said new addition just so happening to have a complicated and not entirely pleasant past history with Drew.

  • Adaptational Late Appearance: In Prehistoric Earth, Cynthia first debuted in the third to last episode of Phase 1. Here, she finally makes her Prehistoric Park Reimagined debut in the Phase 2 premiere.
  • Amphibian Assault: The cryonychus at one point engage in a brief standoff against the khionesaurus for the rights to feast upon a dead prosauropod.
  • Amphibian at Large: Amongst the speculative species rescued in this chapter is a species of temnospondyl of similar size as the proterogyrinus or eryops back at the park (later called the cryonychus draco).
  • Campfire Character Exploration: Leon and Drew undergo a small heart-to-heart around a campfire they and Jack set up in Jurassic Antarctica.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: Discussed by Matt over the course of deciding upon names for newly discovered species when he brings up how, when one splits hairs, the newly discovered and named cryonychus draco sort of evoke the appearance of dragons.
  • Feet-First Introduction: Before she is fully introduced properly, the first we see of Cynthia is her foot stepping down from a helicopter.
  • Gentle Giant Sauropod: The glacialisaurus and both of the speculative sauropodomorphs rescued alongside it are all generally very good natured and friendly over the course of their appearances in the episode.
  • History Repeats: Much like in Alien Empire, the portal remote once again unexpectedly malfunctions. And this time, all three present rescue team members' portal remotes undergo this concern worthy event.
  • Mythology Gag: The episode's plot contains several similarities to Prehistoric Earth episode Spirits of the Silent Forest.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: The cryolophosaurus couple are named after Elvis Presley and his wife Priscilla. Similarly, the male pseudodilophosaurus is named Goulet, after musician Robert Goulet (whom, amusingly, the real life Elvis Presley hated enough to shoot a TV whenever he heard the man singing).
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Par for the course, the larger temnospondyl species featured in this episode showcases some fairly crocodile-like behaviors.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: A speculative theropod species and a speculative temnospondyl species both get named in ways themed after the Greek snow goddess Khione.
  • Shout-Out: The speculative Antarctican dilophosaur species have protofeather manes around their necks that puff up in intimidation gestures similarly to frills.
  • Talk to the Fist: Cynthia chooses to greet Drew by punching him in the face right as he's in the midst of saying hello to her and admitting how long its been since they last saw each other.
