Recap / Prehistoric Park Extras E 14 A Little Taste Of Heaven

Go To

One fine day at the Hell Creek Formation exhibit zone after the purussaurus/kelenken mission, Kyle, Linda, and Cass observe the various herbivores dwelling within the main large herbivore paddock. And in the process, they both take note of how the ornithomimus have successfully laid eggs and reflect on how they feel about working at the park.

  • Babies Ever After: The ornithomimus (a couple of which were previously at the very least hinted to potentially be gravid back in Two Sides of One Coin), have successfully laid their eggs as of this chapter.
  • Big Brother Instinct: While it's entirely likely Sandor would have reacted to the fact that there appeared to be a disturbance going on in his herd regardless of which subordinate member ended up causing him to be alerted to as much, it is nonetheless quite noticeable that he instantly reacts at the sound of his sister Luxa bellowing angrily after she's accidentally gotten crashed into by Copernicus.
  • Gentle Giant Sauropod: Custer the alamosaurus is present in this chapter, and he's revealed to have become the strong, but fair, unofficial leader of the Hell Creek herbivores that live alongside him in the paddock.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Carina the edmontosaurus is revealed to be riddled with scars as a heavily implied result of having gotten into several fights against predators back in her home time for the sake of defending her herd.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Linda is revealed here to have started forming a bond with Carina the edmontosaurus while Cass both interacts once more with her previously established animal companion Einstein and shows signs of forming a bond with Theo the triceratops.
  • Large and in Charge: It is revealed in this chapter that Custer the alamosaurus, by far the largest of the Hell Creek herbivores dwelling in the large herbivore paddock in the Hell Creek exhibit zone, has become the unofficial leader of the paddock's herbivores. Similarly, amongst the ankylosaurus, the larger and older Abrams is revealed to have a degree of authority over the other ankylosaurus by virtue of him being able to convince younger male Bumpy to move back and away from the ornithomimus nests.
  • Like Father, Like Daughter: Both Toppsy the alpha male triceratops and his daughter Cera turn out to be fairly temperamental and in possession of low patience.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Conversely, Toppsy's son Theo is so far a lot more playful and mild mannered at his current age than his father is.
  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: Due to ornithomimus females being promiscuous, it is unclear which males have fathered which eggs. Given that a later story revealed that the chicks are raised by the entire flock anyway, paternity's immaterial.
  • Mama Bear and Papa Wolf: The ornithomimus are very protective of their eggs, as shown when Bumpy accidentally gets too close to the nests.
  • Mythology Gag: One of Toppsy and Tria's sons (and Cera's brother), is revealed to be named Theo (after the single rescued triceratops from the original Prehistoric Park).
  • Named After Somebody Famous: One of Einstein's contemporaries in the pachycephalosaurus herd (and potentially one of his favorite targets for his Troll behavior) is revealed to be named Copernicus.
  • Raised by the Community: Regardless of blood relation, the entire ornithomimus flock help watch over the eggs. This is similar behavior to some birds today.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The alpha male and female of the triceratops herd are revealed to be named Toppsy and Tria, with one of their daughters similarly being revealed to be named Cera.
    • The alpha male torosaurus, amusingly, is revealed to be named Ferdinand.
    • The younger of the two male ankylosaurus turns out to be named Bumpy.
  • Social Ornithopod: Both the edmontosaurus and ornithomimus herds are revealed to be very sociable around each other and their respective herd mates.
  • Temper-Ceratops: Downplayed, but alpha male triceratops Toppsy and one his daughters (named Cera) are shown to be rather tense and slightly less patient than the rest of the herbivores over the course of waiting for Custer to finish his turn drinking at the paddock's waterhole before taking their own turns at drinking. Averted, on the other hand, for Toppsy's son Theo, who is far more playful and mild mannered at his current age than temperamental.
  • Tough Armored Dinosaur: The ankylosaurus and denversaurus are described as being very tough and formidable, with Abrams in particular being portrayed as rather difficult to read (but not without possessing a hidden soft side to his personality), whereas Bumpy ends up giving the ornithomimus reason to feel wary about him when he unwittingly comes a little too close to their nesting ground. And even Sherman the denversaurus is described by Kyle's inner thoughts as being very aggressive and belligerent when provoked, much like Joe Bristow.
  • Troll: Once again, Einstein is in top form as this by virtue of capriciously goading fellow subordinate male pachycephalosaurus Copernicus into irritably chasing after him.
  • Uncatty Resemblance: As Kyle takes note while observing the denversaurus, Sherman the denversaurus and Joe Bristow the security guard are both friendly and amiable for the majority of the time but can get quite aggressive and belligerent when provoked.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Judging by his confused reaction to the ornithomimus squawking and kicking at him, young ankylosaurus Bumpy was unaware of just how close he ended up getting to the ornithomimus nests.
