Recap / Power Rangers RPM S1E29 If Venjix Won

Go To

Ziggy accidentally teleports him and Dr. K into a cave, with the rangers needing to figure out the password to Dr. K's system in order to get them out of the cave. However, Dr K's computer has a countermeasure to hackers and/ or survivors, triggering her doomsday log, a video of the Ranger Operators and their history, and how they failed to defeat Venjix. The team must figure out what the good doctor's password is before they run out of attempts and the hard drive is scrubbed, preventing them from rescuing the stranded pair.

Tropes

  • Apocalyptic Log: Dr. K is revealed to have made a log of the events of the series, complete with detailed analysis of the ranger tech they had used, just in case they lost and some humans came across the wreckage of Corinth, so the fight could continue with new people taking up the mantle.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: We learn that Dr. K has Ziggy's name for her password.
  • Call-Back: Ziggy asks Dr. K why she, of all people, wanted to spend time with him that day. She answers, "It's my birthday, and I wanted to go outside"—echoing the requests she made to her handlers growing up in Alphabet Soup each year on her birthday. (Cue flashbacks.)
  • Clip Show: The Apocalyptic Log is used as the framing device to show off clips from the show as well as flashbacks from the Rangers and Dr. K's perspectives.
  • Embarrassing Password: Dr. K's password is "Ziggy".
  • "Eureka!" Moment: While discussing what Dr. K's password could be the team concludes that, if its not based on anything logical, then she must have based her password on something illogical. Combined with her tendency to never say his name out loud, Summer realizes that Dr. K must have based her password on the most illogical person she knows, Ziggy.
  • Improvised Weapon: The concept is lampshaded when Ziggy and Dr. K are attacked by Grinders. The two argue over who gets to use a broken pole as a weapon when K points out that Ziggy has actual weapons.
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish": Partially subverted. The Rangers guess several ranger-related words and phrases as Dr. K's possible computer password, each one failing. It turns out she chose Ziggy's name as her password, presumably thinking no-one would guess because no-one knew that she had feelings for him.
  • Secret-Keeper: Summer is the one to figure out that Dr. K's password is Ziggy's name but keeps the information to herself and makes up a fake password when the other Rangers ask.
  • Ship Tease: The whole episode is one for Dr. K and Ziggy, from the latter trying to make her smile for her birthday to the password of Dr. K's computer being Ziggy's name.
  • When She Smiles: After finding out that it is her birthday, Ziggy puts on a puppet show for Dr. K so that he can give her his present; a smile.
