Recap / Power Rangers Lost Galaxy S1E27 Loyax' Last Battle

Go To

For their attack on Terra Venture, Villamax brings in an old friend of his: Loyax. An old warrior, Loyax wants a final, glorious battle with the rangers before he dies. And being an older fighter, he doesn't exactly think females can be great fighters. But there's more to this monster than meets the eye. And perhaps in his struggle, Loyax may find that his old honor and goodness aren't as gone as he thought.

Tropes

  • Adaptation Deviation: Loyax is a loyalist of Trakeena’s who is commended for his honor (except by Deviot) and granted a request for a last battle. In Gingaman, his counterpart Degius was a laughing stock for holding the same beliefs and was sent out to fight because he was considered disposable. He only wanted a final battle so he could receive a Mercy Kill.
  • Adapted Out: Another component of the Gingaman plot was that not only was Degius considered disposable, but that the device on his wrist was to collect energy from a passing comet to revive Titanisaur's counterpart, which succeeds; because of this subplot not being adapted, a brief part of the Megazord battle was replaced with US-original footage.
  • Enemy Mine: Maya and Loyax have this when they end up in a cave with her leg being injured and Loyax’s eyesight being bad in the dark. Happens again when Deviot attacks them.
  • Fallen Hero: Loyax was a warrior for good, but evil has spread so far. He's eventually defeated, and chose to become evil.
  • Faux Symbolism: Maya puts Loyax's sword on the ground in his honor. It resembles a cross.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Loyax becomes good again, and thanked Maya just before his death.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: The first to feature a good Monster of the Week.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Loyax disparages Maya for being a girl and considers her defeating him disgraceful.
