Recap / Power Rangers Beast Morphers Episode 32 The Evox Snare

Go To

In a bid to save Mayor Daniels from Evox, Grid Battleforce deactivates the Morph-X Tower hoping to lure the latter into a trap.

Tropes:

  • Attack Reflector: Evox is able to ruin the Rangers' plan to trap him with the ice arrow by stopping it in midair, turning it around, and firing it back at the Rangers.
  • Batman Gambit: The Rangers' plan to lure Evox into a trap is dependent on Scrozzle eavesdropping on their conversation about supposedly being unable to shut down Morph-X Tower 5.
  • Call-Back: As stated earlier in the season, exposure to human DNA corrupts Evox's data. Here, the details are revealed in full: Evox has deteriorated to the point that he's dependent on Morph X to even survive.
  • The Cameo: Olivia Tenant as Doctor K appears via a video meeting with Devon. Plus, the audience gets treated to the sight of numerous past Ranger weapons and Morphers in the Grid Battleforce's secret vault.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Cell Shift Morpher is curiously the only old Ranger tech aside from the Split Emitters to be held by a Beast Morphers character, particularly Ben. Fast forward to the penultimate episode, we found the answer.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: Nate's Ranger Tech vault is full of morphers and weapons used by past Ranger teams.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Devon researches Doctor K's notes and brings up how Dillon (Ranger Operator Black) suffered from nearly turning evil due to his cybernetic enhancements.
    • Doctor K in turn brings up how the Dino Charge Rangers freed Zenowing from Doomwing. Furthermore, the split emitters they developed end up playing a major role in saving Mayor Daniels.
  • Didn't See That Coming:
    • At first, it looked like the Rangers' plan to trap Evox was working. Unfortunately, Evox saw through it.
    • Evox had no way of knowing that Devon had technology that could physically split him from Mayor Daniels body and that he was just buying time in order to get it ready.
  • Foreshadowing: Both Dr. K and the Ranger Tech Vault (particularly the Cell Shift Morphers) will end up playing a major role in the series' endgame.
  • Mythology Gag: Amusingly Scrozzle says Alpha's famous catchphrase of "Ai yi yi yi yi!" after Evox has been split off from Mayor Daniels.
  • Oh, Crap!: Scrozzle's reaction to the news that Grid Battleforce is shutting down the Morph-X Towers.
  • Plan B Resolution: Nate develops a freezing arrow that would trap Evox in solid ice thick as diamonds with no risk of him escaping. However, Devon isn't happy as that would mean trapping his father in ice as well, leading him to go and contact Doctor K for more options. Good thing Devon did, as Nate's ice arrow plan failed.
  • Shapeshifter Guilt Trip: When Devon blocks his way to getting at the Morph-X in Tower 5, Evox uses his father's body as a ploy to let him pass. Fortunately, Devon didn't fall for it and lured Evox into the path of the split emitters.
  • Villainous RRoD: Due to the long term exposure of having his virus merged with human DNA Evox needs Morph-X in order to stay alive and is shown to be far weaker then when he first fought the Rangers. Notably after being split from Mayor Daniels's body Evox is forced to make a hasty retreat with Scrozzle rather then risk another confrontation.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The tracking device that Nate injected into Mayor Daniels in the previous episode is never brought up. Even Evox seemed to forget about it as he was shown in the Crystal Dimension when the major point of the last episode was that he couldn't lead the Rangers to his base.
