• Anachronic Order: Takes place between Brock's OS departure and his return for the AG series.
• Brick Joke: Brock runs into Flint the same way Ash and Misty meet Flint when they first set foot in Pewter City.
• Continuity Snarl: Aside from Lola's very existence (well, the Japanese version of Showdown In Pewter City! said that she abandoned the family), Brock had to remind his father of the time Ash beat Onix with Pikachu, and Flint wonders how Ash pulled it off...never mind that it was Flint himself who helped supercharge Pikachu.
• Epic Fail: Flint calls out his Golem, in the middle of a water field...Golem was having enough trouble balancing on the small rock it's on.
• Freak Out: Lola's decision to revamp the gym doesn't sit well with the rest of her family...and that's nothing compared to her eldest son's reaction when he sees the results.
• Scissors Cuts Rock: Brock's Onix beats Lola's Mantine despite the 4x weakness to Water-types.
