Our heroes find Larvitar's mother, but the presence of Team Rocket—and poachers—on Mt. Silver complicates a reunion.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Don't Split Us Up: Ash decides to leave Larvitar with its Tyranitar mother at Ranger Mason's preserve.
- Earn Your Happy Ending: After a horrible separation from its mother when still an egg, Larvitar is finally returned to Tyranitar and the poachers that stole the egg have been captured, allowing the two to live together in peace.
- Funny Background Event: More like foreground. After Ash gets trapped in the poacher's Pokemon bag when trying to protect Larvitar, Ranger Mason shows up. As Misty and Brock explain to her what they are doing at the reserve, Pikachu is busy poking a trapped Ash with a stick.
- Villain Ball: Team Rocket helps the poachers try to nab Tyranitar. Though they only did it so they could turn around and rob the poachers.
