On a girl's sleepover with Chrysa, Chloe learns of a past encounter between Chrysa and a Psyduck trainer.
- Bait-and-Switch: Chloe introduces Chrysa to the Psyduck Trainer and Chrysa rushes towards...the Psyduck.
- Character Check: Gengar trying (and failing) to scare Eevee is a nod to how it used to be before Ash caught it - a mischievous prankster.
- Contrived Coincidence: Goh and Ash conveniently meet up with Chrysa's old beau with the Psyduck.
- Color Failure: Chloe experiences this when she finds out that Chrysa was looking for Psyduck and not its Trainer.
- A Day in the Limelight: This episode is all about Chrysa.
- Heroic BSoD: Chloe, of all people, is suffering from this at the end of the episode.
- Missed Him by That Much: Goh and Ash wait for a Lapras pod to arrive and leave just a few seconds before they arrive.
- Out of Focus: Ash, Pikachu and Goh don't appear till halfway through the episode and are only in a few scenes. Likewise, Gengar is the only one of Ash's Pokémon (besides Pikachu) to appear and even then, only briefly.
- No-Sell: Gengar appears to scare Eevee. Chloe's Eevee isn't phased at all.
- Poster-Gallery Bedroom: Chrysa's apartment is filled to the brim with Psyduck merchandise.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Gengar's attempts to scare Chloe's Eevee fail and Chrysa calls it out, the Ghost/Poison-type angrily phases through the nearby wall and leaves.
- Shipper on Deck: Chloe becomes this for Chrysa and her friend. Too bad it doesn't end exactly in Chloe's favor.
