Recap / Pokemon HAC 29 Battling Like Clockwork

Go To

On their last trek through Ghastly Gorge, Flash and the group are blocked from leaving by a Steeledge, in which it's up to Doc to save the day.

  • Child Prodigy: The chapter delves into Doc's past, revealing that he spent years repairing and befriending Tockwork when he was just ten years old.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The chapter primarily focuses on Doc, particularly on his past with Tockwork and his battle with Steeledge.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After many trials and tribulations, the group finally makes it out of Ghastly Gorge, with Flash initiating a race to a nearby town as celebration.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Doc captures the hostile Steeledge, becoming another loyal Pokémon to add to his roster.
  • Legacy Character: Doc's nickname was passed on to him by his old mentor.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: The Steeledge isn't really malicious and only attacks the group because it thinks that they were harming the Carbeak.
  • Not Quite Flight: Though they have wings, the Carbeak can't fly conventionally and instead travel by gliding. This makes the high winds in Ghastly Gorge a suitable environment for them.
  • Power of Friendship: A flashback shows that Doc tried to repair Tockwork for years, thinking of him as a friend while doing so and sharing all his ideas for inventions and his goals with him. Right when Doc was ready to give up on fixing Tochwork though, apologizing to him for failing him, a pile of junk starts to collapse and almost crushes Doc, only for Tockwork to finally spring to life and save its friend.
