With Lightning making it to the finals, Flash and Rainbow face off to determine who will get to advance to the next round of the tournament.
- Call-Back: During the battle between Hopper and Fletchinder, Flash uses the same strategy he used to defeat Braeburn at the Appaloosa Gym, having Hopper use the sand on the battlefield to create a cloud of sand to extinguish Flame Charge and getting sand in Fletchinder's eyes.
- Cliffhanger: The chapter ends with Flash preparing his Pokémon for the final match with Lightning, making it the most serious battle of their rivalry thus far. Meanwhile, the Dragon Riders briefly appear, revealed to have located Hopper after seeing Flash use him in his battle with Rainbow and seemingly ready to finally meet him.
- Double Knockout: Hopper and Rainbow's Gliscor tie with each other during their battle.
- Graceful Loser: Rainbow isn't the least bit upset about losing to Flash, content to shake his hand and admit defeat to him.
- Heroic Second Wind: Skyler evolves into a Tornavian during his battle with Tank, giving him to power boost needed to win.
- Heroic Rematch: It is noted how in all the previous battles Flash and Rainbow have had and "actually finished", Rainbow was the winner. Here though, Flash finally comes out the winner. This also extended to Skyler and Tank, with Skyler having lost twice in a row to Tank previously, only to finally come out the winner here.
- History Repeats: Rainbow and Tank are once again defeated by a Tornavian, not long after they lost to Spitfire's. Rainbow actually lampshades this.
- Took a Level in Badass: Midway into the match, Flash's Skyler evolves into Tornavian, which Celestia attributes to Flash's determination and faith in his Pokémon.
