"The Prophecy Comes True" includes examples of:

  • Adaptational Context Change:
    • In the books, Annabeth didn't witness Luke's betrayal of Percy, and only heard about what he did from a secondhand account from the latter. She didn't properly confront Luke for his Face–Heel Turn until the second book, The Sea of Monsters. Here, Annabeth secretly spies on the two of them using her invisible cap, meaning she learns of Luke's treachery alongside Percy, and even participates in trying to take him down.
    • Instead of Sally deliberately petrifying Gabe with Medusa's head, which some fans found rather callous and out of character from someone so nice, he finds it in its box at the Jacksons' apartment, having been sent back unopened by the gods. Being Gabe, he petrifies himself by accident when he spitefully opens their mail.
  • Adaptational Expansion: Zeus and Poseidon's conversation in Ancient Greek is fully rendered, although Percy still doesn't understand any of it aside from patros, meaning "father". According to captions, the conversation is:
    Poseidon: Who knows about Father?
    Zeus: Ares. Hades. Hermes, so...
    Poseidon: ...everyone.
  • Adaptational Intelligence:
    • In the books, Zeus is notorious for his Head-in-the-Sand Management, refusing to address the return of Kronos and forbidding discussion of the subject amongst his fellow gods until the evidence was too much to ignore. In this episode, Zeus acknowledges the threat Kronos faces the minute he learns about it from Percy, and is quick to call for a council meeting to handle the "family business" it entails, albeit not without smugly declaring his victory against Poseidon beforehand.
    • In the book, Percy didn't figure out that Luke was going to betray him until he had already been poisoned by the scorpion he planted on him. Here, Percy realizes that he's in league with Kronos after he speaks the prophecy aloud and finally realizes who the "friend" who's going to betray him is.
  • Adaptational Location Change: The fight with Ares is on the beach in Montauk instead of in Santa Monica.
  • Adapted Out:
    • Demigods no longer have the ability to automatically understand Ancient Greek. Percy was only able to pick up a word because his mother taught him.
    • In the book, Chiron manipulates the Mist to clear Percy's name regarding the cross-country trail of destruction. There's no mention of this happening in the show, though it's implied that Gabe's accusations about Percy being a terrorist and murderer are what finally get Sally to dump him.
    • Luke doesn't summon a scorpion to poison Percy in this version, instead engaging him in a sword fight.
  • And the Adventure Continues: Percy has defeated Ares and returned Zeus' Master Bolt and Hades' Helm of Darkness, Poseidon "surrenders" his war with Zeus to ensure the latter spares his son, and Hades returns Sally to the living world. However, Luke is ousted as the real Lightning Thief and is currently on the run, plotting to resurrect his master, Kronos, in order to destroy the gods. On the last day of summer, Annabeth and Percy decide to return to the mortal world for the school year and Grover, having received his official Searcher's License, is planning to look for Pan somewhere at sea, and the trio make their own pact to reunite next summer.
  • Apologetic Attacker: Percy apologizes to Luke after he draws first blood, but an angry Luke immediately knocks him down and would have stabbed him if not for Annabeth's intervention.
  • Blatant Lies: When Percy wakes from a nightmare and his mom asked when Kronos said to him, Percy says that he said, "Don't forget to tell your mom how much you love her today." Sally doesn't believe it for a second.
Sally: Kronos, Lord of the Titans, said that?
Percy: I mean he could have.
  • Company Cross References: Annabeth mentions that she's considering visiting Disney World. Disney owns 20th Television, which created this series.
  • Death Glare: Clarisse gives one to Percy upon his return to camp for humiliating her father.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: In response to Zeus' arrogant refusal to take his warning about Kronos' return seriously or call off the war with Poseidon despite the Master Bolt's successful return, Percy gives the king of the gods a withering "The Reason You Suck" Speech for making the Olympians such a Big, Screwed-Up Family.
  • Dream Tells You to Wake Up: Percy thinks he's reunited with Sally at Montauk, but it turns out to be one of Kronos's nightmares when dream Sally tells Percy to wake up. The real Sally wakes him up shortly after Kronos delivers his message.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Percy tries to make sense of the prophecy in hindsight to Luke, he realizes that Luke is the traitor when he tries to explain the "You will be betrayed by one who calls you a friend" line.
  • Flashback B-Plot: The first half of the episode is interwoven with flashbacks to Percy's lessons with Luke before he left on the quest.
  • Get Out!: Mr. D yells this to any campers not intending to stay full-time.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Percy is quickly put on the backfoot when his duel with Ares begins, as the god of war ends up knocking him around like a cat playing with a ball of yarn. After landing in a nearby tide pool, he immediately turns the tables by bringing a massive wave crashing down on Ares, flooring him just long enough for Percy to land the decisive blow.
  • Hypocrite:
    • When Zeus points out that Percy is a forbidden child that should never have been born, Poseidon points out that Zeus broke the law first with Thalia.
    • Luke also displays some hypocrisy after his Face–Heel Turn is revealed. He claims to Percy that he didn't mean to hurt or kill him, yet the flying shoes he gave to Percy were intended to drag him and the Master Bolt straight into Tartarus and didn't seem too concerned for Grover's well-being.
  • In Memoriam: The credits begin with a dedication to the late Lance Reddick.
  • Mythology Gag: Just like the only part of the movies Rick Riordan approved of, Gabe ends up petrifying himself through his own stupidity rather than Sally intentionally doing it to him.
  • Loophole Abuse: During one of their lessons, Luke teaches Percy that it's important to know the rules in order to be able to use them against your enemy. He later explains to Percy that the gods have certain rules they have to follow, but then they create demigods who do not have such restrictions to get around them.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Percy verbally tears Zeus a new one when the latter both dismisses his warning about Kronos' return and refuses to call off his war with Poseidon, pointing out that it's his fault the Greek gods are so screwed up and noting that Ares had been colluding with Kronos right under the lord of Olympus' nose.
  • Sequel Hook: Grover says that satyrs have searched across every inch of the land for Pan and found nothing... but they haven't checked the seas, and that's where he's going next. Percy and Annabeth promise to go after him if there's trouble.
  • The Stinger: Gabe comes home to his apartment and discovers that not only has Sally divorced him, she's even locked him out. Then he finds the box containing Medusa's head at the doorstep and foolishly opens it... and gets himself petrified.
  • Victory by First Blood: Percy challenges Ares to a duel with the winner being the first to draw blood. Percy wins, earning him Ares's permanent enmity.
