"I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom" contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Chris Rodriguez, a demigod son of Hermes, appears as Luke's second-in-command at Cabin 11. Chris was mentioned briefly in second novel, The Sea of Monsters, but did not appear until the fourth novel, The Battle of the Labyrinth.
    • Also from Labyrinth: Grover consults the Cloven Council, a governing body of elder satyrs and other nature spirits who, while established from the first book, did not personally appear until the fourth.
  • Adaptation Deviation: In the book, when Percy first hears Thalia's story, he's only told that she sacrificed her life to get her friends safely to camp. That said friends were Luke and Annabeth is something he only discovers late into the book, but here Luke tells him all of this upfront.
  • Adaptation Expansion:
    • The show includes a new scene where, after learning how burnt offerings work, Percy sacrifices some of his candy in an attempt to pray to / contact his mother.
    • Luke discusses kleos, the Greek concept of glory. Achieving feats of glory is key to the social order among the demigod kids at camp, and Percy is determined to make himself as impressive as possible so his father will claim him and help Sally.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Annabeth was always brilliant, as befits a daughter of the wisdom goddess. But the show's depiction of Annabeth is more perceptive than her literary equivalent. For one, she's much quicker to realize that Percy is Poseidon's son. In the book, she didn't learn that until Percy was claimed.
  • Adapted Out: Argus and the hellhound for budgetary reasons.
  • Batman Gambit: Annabeth leaves Percy by himself in the middle of the forest, knowing that Clarisse would want to track him down as revenge for the bathroom incident, thereby depriving the red team of their strongest warrior.
  • Big "NO!": Clarisse lets one out when Percy breaks her spear, which in the books was a gift from her father Ares.
  • Clingy McGuffin: Like the book, Percy's pen/sword will always reappear in his pocket no matter where he leaves it - a great help to a demigod with ADHD.
  • Disability Superpower: It isn't spelled out as thoroughly as it is in the books, but Percy's daydreaming, ADHD, and dyslexia are all standard features of the demigod neuro-type. In the books, it's explained that ADHD is a battle reflex, as sitting still would be a hindrance in battle, and dyslexia exists because demigod brains are "hard-wired" for reading magical languages like Ancient Greek.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: In the books, Chiron only pretends to be disabled when in disguise as a human, where he uses a magic wheelchair to hide his equine lower body. That is still true in the show, but look closely at his back legs and you'll notice he wears a brace around one of them. Word of God says that this is an old battle wound, and they plan to explore it in more detail if they get more seasons.
  • Eye Colour Change: As a possible result of being claimed by Poseidon, Percy's eyes have taken on a slightly greenish tint, as seen when he converses with Dionysus and Chiron in the final scene.
  • Hoist By Her Own Petard: Clarisse tries to bully Percy by having her goons give him a swirly, but the attempt ends with Percy hurling them back and soaking them with toilet water.
  • Mythology Gag: Before going to battle, Annabeth nicknames Percy "Sunshine", which is Nico Di Angelo's pet name for Will Solace. Oddly enough, Percy (in this adaptation at least) bears an uncanny resemblance to the latter.
  • Refusal of the Call: Bitter at Poseidon's failure to parent him for twelve years, Percy initially has no interest in clearing the sea god's name and finding the true lightning thief. It isn't until Grover comes running in and tells him there's a chance Sally can be rescued that he changes his mind.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Clarisse's need to go after Percy ends up costing her team the game.
