Recap / Peg + Cat S1E48 "The George Washington Problem"

Go To

Peg, Cat, Viv, two of the pirates, and an alien, are accompanying George Washington rowing in the Delaware River to stop some intimidating foes who are being referred to as "meanies". Our protagonists are being navigators and Peg shows Cat that they need to row between where the two sevens are on the map. Cat doesn't know what "between" means, so Washington explains it in song. Peg and Cat's legs begin to feel weak but they don't have anything to sit on. Luckily, Cat finds a log but it tilts the boat. After another definition song by Washington (this time defining "balanced"), they find a piece of ice to balance out the log.

They approach the sevens, but there's a problem as usual: this time, a strong wind is blowing them away from the number. To make matters worse, they're going towards a waterfall! Thankfully, George Washington grapples a cherry tree and saves the day. Ramone arrives on horseback and he catapults the boat forward. They reach the sevens, but bump into one and are flown back and down a cobblestone street into a flag maker's house.

At the house, she gives them a flag and Cat accidentally lights the fuse to a cannon. Luckily, all it does is launch the boat back into the river. Unfortunately, the cannonball makes a hole in the boat but they quickly patch it up with a boot. Unfortunately, there is an iceberg, which catapults them onto a tree. Peg, inevitably, has her "freaking out/counting backwards" moment and what inspires her is the boat's tilting: if they unbalance the boat, they'll fall down.

It works and they manage to cross the Delaware. They meet the meanies, who turn out to be Pig, Big Mouth, and the baby T-Rex. Washington gives them a talking-to, they apologise (or rather Baby T-Rex and Big Mouth nod when George Washington asks if they're sorry and Pig says, "And we'll never do it again!".) The flag maker comes back and they do the ending number, which, funnily enough, is about a literal number: 1776.

This episode provides examples of

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: The "meanies" wear only hats.
  • Big "NO!": When the iceberg is catapulting the boat, Peg shouts, "No!".
  • First-Name Basis: Peg calls George Washington by his first name.
  • Hope Spot: Exaggerated. There are heaps of times when it looks like they'll cross the river but something goes awry.
Peg: "We keep almost getting across the Delaware, but we never ever make it across the Delaware!"
  • Inevitable Waterfall: Yup, there's a waterfall.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: George Washington loves the number 1776 so much, he writes a song about it.
  • Poke the Poodle: While Big Mouth, Baby T-Rex, and Pig are branded as meanies, all that Big Mouth and Baby T-Rex did was scare squirrels and all Pig did was watch the other two scare them.
  • Speak in Unison:
    • When George Washington grapples the cherry tree, the title characters say both at once: "George Washington is so cool!". They say it again when they get down from the tree.
    • When the team sees the iceberg, they say, "Iceberg?!" all at once.
  • Time Travel Episode: Apparently, Peg, Cat, the pirates, Ramone, Viv, Big Mouth, Pig, and the baby T-Rex, have time-travelled to 1776.
