Recap / Peeking Through The Fourth Wall Episode 39

Go To

Lincoln, Lori (who is at home while Fairway U is closed for President's Week), Lana, Lisa, and Lily are on the couch to read Sir Hugs-a-Lot. It begins with Lincoln checking that he's wearing his shirt and shoes, and telling Bun-Bun to wish him luck, piquing the interest of the siblings.

Fanfic Lincoln enters Lisa and Lily's room to find the latter building a block tower "of sorts". The real Lori is confused by this wording, but Lincoln points out that Lily is only two. Lisa points out that Lily is very smart for a two-year-old... even though she did try to eat Lisa's Rubik's cube. Fanfic Lincoln snuggles Lily, who's described as a "baby". This annoys the real Lily, but Lincoln points out that it was set when she was still in diapers, but she hasn't gotten any less cute, and he tickles her.

Fanfic Lisa enters, looking for something, but decides to leave when she sees Lincoln busy. He puts down Lily and hugs Lisa, leaving her oddly dismayed. Lana (the real one) wonders if this is what Lincoln was preparing for in the story, which puzzles the real Loud siblings, since he doesn't need to prepare (or even wear shoes or a shirt) to hug his sisters. Also puzzling is that fanfic Lincoln knows what Lisa is looking for (her calipers), and Lana is using them to make cuts in wood for some reason.

Fanfic Lincoln finds Lola applying facial powder, and prepares to hug her. She snaps at him for trying to hug him without permission, which the real Louds point out is fair enough. Fanfic Lana runs up and lets Lincoln hug her, and the real Lana says that nothing can beat a big brother hug. This makes Lori jealous, but Lana explains that it's nothing personal; big brother hugs just feel more special to her than big sister hugs as she has six big sisters but only one big brother.

Fanfic Lola gets jealous and decides she wants a hug after all, so he hugs her, then he sees Lucy. He wants to chase her, skeeving out the real Lori. Luckily, fanfic Lucy claims she needed it when Lincoln hugs her. He goes to the kitchen, only for someone to lift him up. The real siblings wonder who this was — Lincoln thinks it was Lori, while Lisa thinks it was Lynn, but they're both wrong: it's Leni.

Fanfic Leni cuddles Lincoln and asks him to model dresses, making the real Lincoln feel emasculated, but Lori thinks that men and boys should stop caring about their masculinity. Another sister in the story noisily arrives home, and the real Lisa surmises that this is Lynn, and she's correct. Fanfic Lincoln runs up to Lynn and hugs her, then she says she will practice a new boxing move on Lincoln, scaring the real Lincoln.

Fanfic Lincoln goes into Luna and Luan's room, where he finds them both. He hugs Luan, and she makes a vulgar joke about incest, shocking the real siblings (except Lily, who doesn't know what incest is). Then, fanfic Lincoln and Luna hug, leaving Lori as the only un-hugged sister.

Fanfic Lincoln finds Lori in the bathroom, having squeaked for some reason, and he hugs her even though she'd just finished washing, disgusting the real Lori. Then, the story ends with all of the sisters hugging Lincoln, and the episode ends with everyone hugging Lori (but this time, with her permission).

This episode provides examples of

  • Affection-Hating Kid: Fanfic Lisa's response to being hugged by her big brother is described as "dismay" (though she does later admit it feels "very nice").
  • Bait-and-Switch: Fanfic Lincoln encounters the first five sisters in ascending age order (Lily, then Lisa, then Lola, then Lana, then Lucy). This makes it seem like Lynn (who's older than Lucy but younger than Luan) is the sister who picked him up, especially since Lynn is the strongest Loud sibling, but it turns out it was Leni instead.
  • Bannister Slide: Fanfic Lincoln slides down the handrail in his pursuit of Lucy.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: Discussed in the story, where Luan says that "incest is win-cest" when mentioning that her brother is the only boy who likes her jokes.
  • Child Prodigy: Downplayed for Lily, who's still not nearly as smart as Lisa, but Lisa does note that she seems to be much smarter than average.
  • Continuity Nod: When Lori says, "What am I, a mouse?" as a response to fanfic Lori squeaking, Lincoln jokes that he thought he was a mouse. This references him being referred to as a mouse in Substitute Roommate (Episode 2) and Cringeworthy (Episode 15).
  • Contrived Coincidence: As Lisa points out, fanfic Lincoln was very lucky to have hugged Lucy just when she felt she needed a hug, especially since she feels that way far less than her siblings.
  • Ditzy Genius: Lisa notes that Lily, while a lot smarter than other two-year-olds, still tried to eat a Rubik's cube.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Lily apparently once tried to eat Lisa's Rubik's cube.
  • Green-Eyed Monster:
    • Lori pouts when Lana says that big brother hugs are more special to her than big sister hugs.
    • Fanfic Lola only started wanting a hug because she was jealous that Lincoln was hugging Lana but not her.
  • Innocent Awkward Question: When Lily asks what incest is, Lori says, "It's something very icky that you're too young to learn about. Let's leave it at that."
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Downplayed. Fanfic Lincoln's response to Luan's typewriter pun is that it "needs some work".
  • Noodle Incident: When Lisa points out how it'd be concerning if fanfic Lincoln was prepping for a date and had to check if he was wearing his shirt and shoes, Lily defends him by saying that sometimes you just forget your shoes.
  • Out of Character: Downplayed for fanfic Lisa, who is mainly in-character, but she dislikes being hugged. The real Lisa doesn't have any problem with hugging.
  • Platonic Declaration of Love:
    • Fanfic Lincoln says, "I love you, Lily".
    • Then he tells the twins he loves them and vice versa.
    • Fanfic Lori says, "I love you too" when Lincoln is hugging her.
    • At the end, Lincoln's sisters all tell him they love him.
  • Platonic Kissing:
    • Fanfic Lincoln kisses Lisa on the cheek.
    • Fanfic Leni kisses Lincoln on the head.
  • Pun: Fanfic Luan says, "What do you get when you cross a comic and a typewriter? Comic Sans!".
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes:
    • Fanfic Lola gives Lincoln puppy eyes to ask for a hug (which, as Lori points out, is a bit unnecessary, since all she had to do was say she changed her mind).
    • Fanfic Lincoln gives puppy eyes to Luna when asking her to hug him.
  • Rubik's Cube: International Genius Symbol: Lisa is revealed to own a Rubik's cube, and she uses Lily's interest in it as a sign she's smart. However, Lily did try to eat the Rubik's cube.
  • Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: Fanfic Lola sighs by saying, "Sigh".
  • Serious Business: Pointed out when Lincoln and Lana wonder why fanfic Lincoln felt he had to mentally prepare himself just to hug his sisters.
  • Shout-Out: Lana watches a parody of Sonic the Hedgehog titled Speedy the Porcupine.
  • Speak in Unison:
    • In the story, the twins say, "And we love you too, Lincoln!" in unison.
    • When fanfic Luna calls Luan's incest joke "adorable", the real Lori, Lincoln, Lana, and Lisa say in unison, "No, it's not!".
    • At the end, the sisters say, "We love you, Lincoln!" in unison.
  • Vulgar Humour: In the story, Luan makes a joke about incest when pointing out that Lincoln's the only boy who likes her jokes.
