Recap / Parks And Recreation S 06 E 20

Go To

Leslie has an ultrasound, and Dr. Saperstein informs her and Ben that she's carrying triplets. He tells them that they need to avoid stress as much as possible.

While Ben freaks out about the expenses of having three children, the Parks Department is holding an auction to raise money for the Unity Concert. Leslie, trying to avoid stress, makes for a very calm auctioneer, but she can't get the items to sell for decent prices.

Andy is trying to keep Leslie's pregnancy a secret, but April knows he knows something. They go to a children's party so he can perform, and she tries to get him to spill what he knows, so he tells her that Jerry is dying. April starts behaving nicely to Jerry until she realizes that Jerry isn't dying. April is mad at Andy, but he still won't tell.

Ron has Donna come with him to the girls' school, where they are making costumes that the children will use during the Unity Concert. Donna's ex-boyfriend Joe is a teacher at the school, and she tells Ron to keep Joe away from her. Ron expects that there must be something wrong with Joe, but it turns out that he is a great guy whom all the parents and kids love. Donna explains that she and Joe don't like the same things, but Ron tells her that she shouldn't confuse drama with happiness. She then agrees to go out with Joe after setting down certain conditions.

Leslie announces to the Parks staff that she is pregnant with triplets. April tells Andy she is glad he didn't tell her. Jerry offers baby supplies, while the others offer their help. Craig arrives and tells everyone that he sold everything at the auction.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: Back in the Season 2 episode "The Set Up", Leslie got an MRI on a hilariously bad date. The MRI technician comments, "If you wanted you could go triplets right off the bat". In this episode, Ben and Leslie learn that she is carrying triplets.
  • Chekhov's Gag: One stretching back to Season 2. During an MRI scan, Leslie's date comments approvingly on her womb: "If you wanted to, you could have triplets right off the bat, Leslie."
  • Foreshadowing: At one point in Season 2, Leslie is given an MRI while on a blind date with a creepy doctor (played by Will Arnett). He notes that she has a very capable uterus, and could easily have triplets. Only took four years to pay off!
  • Friend to All Children: Joe is a very well-liked teacher.
  • It's All About Me: Craig is mad at Leslie and Ben's pregnancy announcement because they stole his thunder.
  • Nice Guy: Joe. Donna had broken up with him because she was so used to messed up guys, but she decides to give things another go with him after some convincing from Ron.
  • Pet the Dog: April does a bunch of nice things for Jerry when she thinks he's dying.
