Go To

Leslie: I want to be president someday, so I have not smoked marijuana. I ate a brownie once. At a party in college. It was kind of indescribable really. I felt like I was floating. It turns out that there wasn't any marijuana in it, it was just an insanely good brownie.

Ann, who is preparing for her first date with Mark, worriedly asks Leslie if she has any reservations since Leslie previously had feelings for him. Leslie insists she is fine.

Later, Leslie and Tom go to the pit to work in the community garden she set up. Leslie discovers a new plant in the garden, which Tom identifies as marijuana. When she goes to Ron, he suggests she call the police, but she wants to try to take care of it herself to keep their discovery out of the papers. She decides to stake out the garden with Tom.

Ron has a hernia that he has been ignoring, but it's gotten to the point where it hurts when he moves, so he spends the entire workday trying to keep perfectly still. April figures out something is wrong and at the end of the day, she takes him to the hospital.

Leslie and Tom park their van across the street from the pit. Leslie sees Mark arrive to pick up Ann for their date. She takes pictures of them with the camera she brought for the stakeout. They then hear a noise and think they've found their criminal, but it turns out to be Andy returning to his tent in the pit. He reveals he's been eating the vegetables in the garden and joins their stakeout. Leslie stops Tom from telling Andy that Ann and Mark are on a date. Leslie takes Andy to get some burgers, and Tom locks himself out of the van. When he breaks into it, Ann and Mark return from their date and see him. They think he's a criminal and call the police.

As Leslie and Andy return to the van, she tells him about Ann's date and he passes out. A police officer confronts Tom in the van; Tom is offended by the questioning and acts belligerently. The cop takes him to the station and calls for the van to be towed.

When Leslie and Andy arrive at the scene, Andy takes off so Ann won't see him. Ann and Mark proudly tell Leslie that they caught a criminal, but Leslie tells them the truth. They go to the station to free Tom, but the cop, Dave, wants him to stay overnight. Leslie sends Ann and Mark home and waits at the station for Tom. She tries to explain to Dave what she and Tom were doing at the pit.

Next morning, Tom is set free. Dave drives them to the van and inspects the garden. He tells Leslie that there is no marijuana and that he thinks she just was just feeling insecure about her best friend and "former lover" dating. Dave later expresses interest in Leslie.

Tropes

  • Bait-and-Switch: Leslie talks about having once eaten a "magical brownie" and she felt like she was floating. There wasn't any pot in that brownie though, it was just an insanely good brownie.
  • Dead All Along: Discussed by Ann in a camera statement:
"When Andy and I used to go the movies, he would always try to guess the ending of the movie. And he would always guess that the main character had been dead the whole time. Even when we saw Ratatouille."
  • I Was Born Ready: When April asks Ron if he's ready to be taken to the hospital for his hernia, Ron replies with this.
  • Precision F-Strike: Stricken with a severe hernia, Ron enlists April to get him into the hospital. When she asks him if he's ready to go, he makes this statement, sitting motionless in his office chair, in absolute pain: "I was born ready. I'm Ron fucking Swanson."
  • Stalker with a Crush: Andy has been living in the pit to stay close to Ann.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Leslie and Andy both mistake marijuana plants for the stems and leaves of carrots. Probably because they are carrots.
