Recap / Paradise PDS 01 E 06 Meet The Jabowskis

Go To

Gina reunites with her long lost family, after repressed memories of her childhood come back. Meanwhile, Bullet and Fitz fake sick to skip out on work and Randall hires a hooker to be Gina's replacement.

  • Bestiality Is Depraved: Fitz is clearly uncomfortable at having to pretend to be Bullet's lover.
  • Body Horror: Gina has an anus in the back of her head, that she calls "brainus".
  • Briefcase Full of Money: Bullet and Fitz find one of these in the wrecked car of a random assailant.
  • Bullying the Disabled: After one too many attempts by Gina to filibuster the bank robbery on Paradise's own bank, her dad flies into a rage when Gina brings up the Wheel of Handicapped.
Mr. Jabowski: This bank job is hard enough! I say, fuck the handicapped!
Wheelchair-bound man: (leaving the bank, in a slurred voice) Fuck you too dick!
  • Comical Overreacting: Gina flips out at a nun for putting Sprite in a water cup and beats the holy snot out fo her.
Gina: Okay, chief. I promise I won't overreact to every little-DID THAT CUNT JUST PUT SPRITE IN A WATER CUP!?!?!?
  • Deep South: Gina's family appear to be all a bunch of uneducated rednecks.
  • Didn't Think This Through: When Gina finds out her family is going to rob her own hometown's bank (Paradise First National Bank), she points out that the bank is destitute and can't break any bills over than $5 egging they go after Diamond City's bank instead. Her father still insists on it anyways because the town's best cop quit (which was Gina) and now is the perfect time.
  • Family Disunion: The premise of the episode.
  • Fetish: Stanley fucks the apple fritters in the lunchroom.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: When Bullet claims that he and a Fitz are lovers in order to hide out in a motel, Fitz reluctantly goes along with it.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Zig-zagged. Gina goes from being a heroic cop to being a criminal to being a cop again. Do remember that this episode outright admits Gina is mentally insane and is diagnosed with "Bitch Be Crazy" syndrome.
  • Hidden Depths: It's learned that Gina had a traumatic childhood memory of being used as a human shield against the cops, by her criminal family. She was shot in the back of the head, which made her lose memory of everything from the first 21 years of her life.
  • Karma Houdini: After being exposed as his own daughter's near-ender, Gina fires away at him, who uses his own son, his younger son and his baby daughter to shield himself then steals the suitcase of money that Fitz and Bullet stole and runs off.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Gina to The Jabowski Family.
  • MacGuffin: Bullet and Fitz fight over a briefcase full of money.
  • Magical Defibrillator: Gina shocks Granny Jabowski to death with a taser and brings her back to life, by using two tasers on her corpse.
  • Nobody Calls Me "Chicken"!: In this case, it was "Pussy". Bullet referred to Fitz as this, which pissed him off.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: The motel owner overhears Fitz and Bullet's fight and mistakes it for gay sex.
Fitz: I'm about to pound your ass against this bed!
Bullet: How would you like to get shoked by something furry!?
    Motel Owner: Ahh, young love.
  • Out of Focus: The only member of The Jabowski Family not to get any dialogue, individual scene, or even a name was the baby daughter.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Kevin dresses up a sickly old prostitute with a blonde wig to look like Gina. It does fool the criminals, but Kevin allows the prostitute to eat a bunch of narcotics by stupidly giving her a bag with them, then she overdoses and dies. Kevin tries covering up his mistake by puppeteering her rotting corpse.
  • Playing Sick: Fitz and Bullet both to this to skip work.
  • Repressed Memories: Gina doesn't remember anything from before she was 22, which may have been in part because she was shot on the back of her head. To be fair, these memories are kind of worth forgetting, as they're all about her getting abused by her criminal family.
  • Shout-Out: Kevin puppeteering a dead prostitute's corpse could be a nod to Weekend at Bernie's.
  • Staging an Intervention: The cops stage an intervention for her obscene overreactions to minor felonies.
  • Strange-Syntax Speaker: Bo Jabowski speaks in inaudible mumbles that everyone in the show can understand.
  • Take That!: When Gina and her family get ready to rob the bank, Gina's dad says, "I'm happier than Louis C.K. trapped in a room with a woman against her will," and gives the family some "creepy comedian masks" (also a reference to Louis C.K.). Gina adds, "These are going to make a lot of women very uncomfortable."
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: Gina's traumatic childhood incident, where her own family betrayed her, by using her as a human sheild (when she was only 5), and getting her shot in the back of the head.
