Recap / PaPCAaMiPT Ch 9 "To Flush or Not to Flush?"

Go To

Seeing Mrs. Cake on the toilet has only made Pound more adamant about not using the potty: after all, if even parents use toilets, why not wait until you're old enough to use those? He asks his sister what all the fuss is at bedtime, and she replies that it's what the adults want, and doesn't he want them to be happy? Pound says that he's already made them happy by using the potty once, and if they have a problem with him waiting until he's old enough for the toilet, maybe he should just leave. He angrily states that he'll run away and become a "potty rebel", building an army who will steal all the potties of potty-training foals and taking down the ponies who make potties, so they can only start potty training when they're old enough to use the toilet and anyone who gets in their way will be flushed.

Pound then falls asleep, and Pumpkin snatches his pacifier telekinetically and decides to do something with it to scare him into submission. However, she's too sleepy to think of a thing to do, so she tucks it into her diaper and falls asleep.

The next morning, Pumpkin wakes up and checks to see if she's used her diaper in her sleep. Thankfully, she hasn't. Now, about Pound's pacifier— she needs to do something that would convince him to use his potty, and that isn't easily undone. Then, she has the perfect idea: flush it down the toilet.

She goes to the bathroom, but then starts having second thoughts. After all, even though he's done wrong, is flushing his pacifier right? But on the other hand (or hoof?) it might be necessary, or else he'll take the potties and flush her down the toilet. But maybe he was bluffing? Then again, he did flush her rubber chicken, poop his diaper on her potty, and steal her potty, so even if he was bluffing, flushing his pacifier would make him pay. Then, Pound wakes up and asks where the pacifier is, so Pumpkin decides it's too late to turn back and flushes it.

Pound runs into the bathroom and cries, then decides to run away. Pumpkin feels really guilty and decides to get the pacifier back and she begins to formulate a plan.

Meanwhile, in the nursery, Pound is packing his belongings into his diaper and then he starts to leave, but Pumpkin runs up to him and somehow has retrieved and cleaned his pacifier. The twins apologise (even if Pumpkin won't reveal how she got it back) and Pound promises he won't flush Pumpkin or leave and start a revolt, while Pumpkin promises not to flush Pound's pacifier again.

This chapter provides examples of

  • Artful Dodger: Discussed when Pound considers running away from home, stealing potties, and possibly living on the street.
  • Big Stupid Doo Doo Head: This is the second chapter in which "turd" is used as an insult.
  • Diaper Check: Pumpkin checks her own diaper to make sure she didn't use it in her sleep while Pound's pacifier was in it. Thankfully, she hadn't.
  • Fun with Flushing:
    • Discussed when Pound threatens to flush anypony who gets in the way of his "potty rebellion".
    • Pumpkin flushes Pound's pacifier down the toilet to goad him into using his potty.
  • Heavy Sleeper: Apparently, Pound Cake is a very heavy sleeper.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Pumpkin feels really guilty about flushing Pound's pacifier and, just like in "Down the Hooooole!", calls herself a turd.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Pumpkin Cake somehow retrieved Pound's flushed pacifier in minutes, yet we never see it happen.
  • Resolved Noodle Incident: This chapter finally establishes what's going on with Pound's pacifier and Gummy: he sometimes gives it to him as a joke.
  • The Runaway: Attempted when Pound Cake tries to run away from home after being told to use the potty and having his pacifier stolen, but Pumpkin interrupts at the right time.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The chapter was named after the line "To be or not to be" from Hamlet.
    • The "Go down the hooooole!" line from Tiny Toon Adventures is said again.
  • Sticky Fingers: Discussed when Pound wants to steal all the potties in the world.
